A Vision’s Time of Fulfillment

I. Fulfillment of the Vision

A. According to God’s Way
1. This does not mean we have to become like robots
a. Mindless
b. Without the ability to think
c. Does not plan
2. God created us in His image. Gen. 1:27
a. We can think like God
b. We can make decisions like God
c. We can plan like God
3. The key is surrender
a. Trust is required. Prov. 3:5
b. Take God at is His Word. Prov. 3:5
c. Allow God to take part. Prov. 3:6
d. Make God the center. Ps. 37:4
e. Sacrifice is necessary. Ps. 37:5
f. Waiting for God’s time is essential. Ps. 37:7
B. According to God’s Time
1. God has a set time for everything and for every purpose. Ecc. 3:1
2. God sets the time for a vision’s fulfillment
a. We may plan and set a time table for every activity that may lead to a vision’s
fulfillment
b. But it is God who determines the appointed time of the fulfillment of a vision
II. God’s Appointed Time
A. God control’s time. Acts 1:7
1. God has a set time for all things
2. Event he coming of Jesus had an appointed time. Gal 4:4
B. God acts at His own time, not ours. 2 Pet 3:8
C. We must wait on God’s time
III. Waiting for God’s Time
A. How long? A year? Two years? Ten years? Or forever?
1. There is no set length of time.
2. Examples from the Bible
a. Paul – fulfilled his vision of being a leader and apostle to the Gentiles only
fourteen years after his conversion. Gal 1:15-18; 2:1-9
b. Joseph – from the time God revealed to him the vision of greatness and leadership
through a dream until its fulfillment spanned thirteen years. Gen 37:2, 5-11;
41:39-46
c. Moses – it took him forty years in the backside of the wilderness when his vision
as Israel’s deliverer was fulfilled. Acts 7:29-34
B. Two things determine how long it will take for a vision to be fulfilled
1. The magnitude and the nature of the vision God has given
 a. In the natural, it is like having a vision of becoming a mechanic or a doctor?
b. The greater the vision, the longer the time of its fulfillment and the more severe
the process of fulfillment
c. It takes a lot of time to refine a vessel made of gold than it does to make an
earthen vessel (made of clay)
d. It also requires fire to refine gold yet only water for a vessel made of clay
2. The way we respond to God’s dealings during the process of preparing us for the
fulfillment of the vision.
a. This is a question of being stubborn or obedient?
b. If we are slow to learn what God is teaching us and what He is leading us to do,
this will lengthen the time of fulfilling the vision.
c. It will also increase the severity of the process required to fulfill the vision
d. Comparing iron with gold
i. The blacksmith must apply a heavy hammer and a lot of heat for a longer time
to shape the hard inflexible iron
ii. The jeweler need only apply modest amounts of pressure for a shorter time to
shape the pliable gold.
IV. Conclusion
When God gives you a vision, always remember that it will always be fulfilled
according to God’s way. But this does not mean you have no part of it since the fact
that the vision was revealed to you is clear enough for you to know that you have a
very important role in its fulfillment. But a word of reminder, there will always be a
period of waiting from the moment the vision is given to the time it will be fulfilled.
The question of when it will be fulfilled is not primarily our concern, it is God’s for
He alone determines the times and the seasons. But on the question of how long the
waiting will be; that will involve us. That is why God tells us through Habakkuk to
write the vision to keep our eyes on it and be continually reminded of until it will be
fulfilled. You may wonder why? Why are we involved in determining the length of
the waiting period? It is because the time of waiting is actually a time of training.
