Makerspace Inventory
10/16/19
Makerspace:
The proposed makerspace for Argo Community High School’s Learning Resource
Center will function as space where any and all students can come to enhance their
presentations, making them more creative and helping them diverge from the standard
PowerPoint. We felt that because students already had access to more advanced “maker”
equipment like robotics, welding, woodshop, and 3D printing, and even sewing machines
through our Career and Technical Education department, we wanted to focus on a space that
could be used by every student for any class.
Giving students a space to enhance their presentations felt like it fulfilled that need
because every class has at least one assignment where students must present something. In
this space we will have audio and video recording equipment, green screen, a VR station, and a
stop-motion station with legos and molding clay that will hopefully inspire students to be creative
and think outside of the box. We will also have computer stations powerful enough to handle the
different editing systems that students will need to create better presentations.
Physical Space:
There is already a room inside of the LRC that functions as mini computer lab used
mainly by our eSports teams. The room is roughly 20 ft. by 15 ft. and has three computer tables
with six custom-built high-end pc’s. Two of the walls have large glass windows that start at 4ft.
from the ground and run all the way up to the ceiling so there is lots of visibility into the room, but
also have curtains to limit light if necessary. On the walls that don’t have computer tables, there
are spare shelving units that currently go unused and can be repurposed for storage of
equipment. There are also ample amounts of outlets along the walls. Our maintenance
department also has spare tables, chairs and shelves for the school if there is a need for more
furniture that isn’t already in the physical space, saving our budget for equipment. The LRac also
has iPad carts available for classroom check out that can double as individual checkout for
students in the maker space.
