1 MATERIALS

Conduit
A. Use rigid galvanized steel conduit for telephone and general wiring.
B. Conduit sizes shall be minimum 2 cm (¾”) diameter unless specified
otherwise.
C. Electrical metallic tubing (EMT) may be used in concealed areas in
offices, control rooms, lunchrooms and security rooms.
D. Liquid-tight flexible metallic conduit is allowed for connections to motors
and any vibrating electrical and mechanical equipment.
E. Liquid-tight flexible non-metallic conduit is allowed for connections from a
fixed point to an end device that is designed to move in a linear path
during normal operation. The conduit shall be supported and strapped to
eye-bolts with integral ball-bearing to allow the cable to be supported as
the device moves.
F. Use rigid Fiber Reinforced Epoxy (FRE) conduit for sleeves and below
ground installations unless indicated otherwise on drawings.

Conduit Fittings
A. Fittings shall be designed for the particular conduit used.
B. Exposed rigid conduit fittings including device outlet boxes shall be cast
threaded hub type.
C. Use liquid-tight connectors for flexible conduit.
D. Use insulated steel conduit bushings with insulation as an integral part of
the fittings.

Conduit Seals
A. Use Type EYS series for horizontal and vertical conduits. Use Type EYD
drain seals for vertical conduits and in low points in conduit systems
where there is a probability that liquid or other condensed vapor may be
trapped within enclosures for control equipment or at any point in the
raceway system.

Conduit Clamps
A. Clamps shall be designed for the particular conduit used.
Cable Trays and Tray Fittings
A. Cable trays shall be by one manufacturer and shall consist of straight
sections, fittings and accessories per NEMA VE1-2006/CSA C22.2 No.
126.1-02. Ensure there are no burrs, projections or sharp edges that
could damage cable jackets or insulation.

B. Ladder Type
1. Stainless Steel CSA "D1" classification, 12 cm (4 ¾”) side rail.
2. Rung spacing 30 cm (12”); standard length of 3m and 6m.
3. Factory made tees, reducers, covers, barriers, crosses and elbows
with 61 cm (2’) radius.

Wire and Splitter Troughs


A. Wire ways and splitter troughs shall be EEMAC 12, fabricated from code-
gauge steel, be of the lay-in type complete with standard knockouts and
screw-on hinged covers. Sheet metal parts shall be coated with a rust
inhibitor and finished in machine grey baked enamel. Hardware shall be
plated to prevent corrosion.
B. Splitter troughs shall have main branch lug capacities.

Cable Ties
A. Cable ties shall be black and of the type and size recommended by the
manufacturer for the installation location.

Portable Power and Control Cables


A. Submersible pumps shall have SHD-GC cable with ground monitoring
protection.

I. Instrumentation Cable - Fibre Optic


1. Single mode: Glass, 8-9/125µm, interlocking aluminum armoured

TIA-598-B compliant color coded sub-assemblies, FT4 rated.
Attenuation shall not exceed 0.5 dB/km.
2. Multimode: Glass, 62.5/125µm, interlocking aluminum armoured
cable with overall orange jacket, internal tension bearing core and
TIA-598-B compliant color coded sub-assemblies, FT4 rated.
Attenuation shall not exceed 3 dB/km.
Wire and Cable Connectors

Cable Fittings
A. Teck Cable and Armoured Instrumentation Cable

construction. For instrument cables as small as ½ in. outside
diameter, use Thomas & Betts Star-Teck STE50-Data.
2. Thomas & Betts StarTeck XP, PVC coated (Cat. No. STX Series),
steel construction; for hazardous locations only.
B. SOW/SOOW Cable
Thomas & Betts liquid tight strain relief fittings or approved equal.
C. Cable Shrink Sleeve
3M 1 kV-ITCSN Series, heat shrinkable, pre-coated adhesive to ensure
environmental sealing.

Wire Markers
A. Brady heat shrinkable wire labels.
B. Other wire marker systems with the same quality and operational life may
be submitted for approval.

Pull and Junction Boxes


A. For Indoor Dry Areas – EEMAC Type 12, dust-tight and drip-tight
enclosure, steel construction with hinged gasketed covers, back plate and
fasteners.
B. Process and Outdoor Areas and Underground – EEMAC Type 4X
corrosion resistant watertight and dust-tight enclosure, grey stainless
steel or fibreglass construction with hinged gasketed covers, back plate
and fasteners.
C. Corrosive Areas – EEMAC Type 4X corrosion resistant, watertight and
dust tight enclosure with gasketed covers, fibreglass construction.
Stainless steel construction shall be permitted if size of the enclosure is
not available in fibreglass.
D. Size of pull boxes shall be a minimum length of eight (8) times the
diameter of the largest conduit or cable.
Cabinets
A. Indoor Dry Areas – EEMAC Type 12 steel construction, continuous
stainless steel piano hinge, removable white back panel, baked epoxy
paint finish, grey outside and white inside.
B. Process, Outdoor Areas and Underground – EEMAC Type 4X corrosion
resistant, fibreglass or stainless steel construction, stainless steel
continuous piano hinge, stainless steel door clamps on three (3) sides
and removable white back panel and fasteners.
C. Corrosive Areas – EEMAC Type 4X fibreglass construction, stainless
steel continuous piano hinge, stainless steel door clamps on three (3)
sides and removable white back panel. Side panel mounting kits
complete with unistrut shall be provided where indicated on the drawings.
Stainless steel construction shall be permitted if size of the enclosure is
not available in fibreglass.
D. Hazardous Locations – EEMAC 7, 8 or 9 depending on hazardous
location requirement, stainless steel construction and removable back
panel.
Electric Motors

For All Motors
Temperature Monitoring Motors 250 hp and above, shall include wiring six
(6) resistive temperature devices (RTDs) (three
(3) wire, platinum 100 ohms) wired to a separate
terminal box. Motors above 500 hp shall also
include bearing two (2) RTDs (three (3) wire,
platinum 100 ohms).
Vibration Monitoring Where specified in the RFQs, motors 250 hp and
above, shall include an IRD vibration monitoring
system, with sensor heads selected suitable to
the operating conditions.
Space Heaters Motors 250 hp and above shall be provided with
space heaters brought out to a separate junction
box from the main junction box. Types of motors
and site operating condition will determine if
smaller motors require space heaters. Supplier
to provide voltage and power ratings.
Insulation Class F (with B temperature rise)

All motors shall be premium efficiency.

Junction Boxes All motors 200 hp or larger shall be supplied with


over sized junction boxes.

Surge capacitors and lightning arrestors shall be used as indicated in the


specifications, data sheets or shown on the drawings.
Motors to be used with variable frequency drives (VFDs) shall be suitable for
inverter application duty as per IEEE 841. All variable speed drives shall
communicate via Ethernet to the distributed control system (DCS) for
information and control commands.
For VFDs installed underground remote from an MCC, the enclosure shall
be designed so the heat sink is enclosed in a vented portion of the enclosure
and the drive in a non-vented portion to prevent ingress of dirt.
In general, motors shall be supplied with the equipment. The motors shall
be manufactured by [WEG].
Control relays shall be industrial type, with encapsulated coils capable of
continuous operation at 100 percent rated voltage. AC coils shall be rated
120 V. DC coils shall be rated 24 V. All relays shall have an indicating light
to indicate when the relay is energized.
Green indicating light for motor running and red indicating light for motor
stopped shall be installed on the cover of every motor controller. Lights shall
be 30mm, oil resistant, heavy duty industrial push-to-test LED’s with legend
plate. Transformer rated at 120 VAC, 60 Hz. Use on all low-voltage motor
running indications on equipment less than 4,160 V.

B. Sealant - 3M 2112 Series or Canadian General Electric type RTV, 1 kV,
non-hardening silicone adhesive sealing compound.
C. See Section 3.3.14 for sizing and additional nameplate specifications.
