LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 7

I. Objectives:

EN7G- I- a-11: Observe correct subject-verb agreement

II. Subject Matter: SUBJECT- VERB AGREEMENT

English Teacher’s Guide, pp.43-44
Materials: Pictures, flash cards, strips of paper with sentences printed on it, laptop, and television

III. Procedure

A. Pre-Activity

1. Review
Look at the given pictures. Construct a sentence observing the three (3) Subject-Verb Agreement
Rules that you learned last time. Use the given words inside the box to form your sentence.

Maám Jayloni The teacher inside the classroom discuss about their assignment

Iloilo Convention Center The building shows kindness to her student

which is located in Mandurriao, Iloilo City serves as venue for

seminars and conventions

2. Presentation
Today, another three (3) subject-verb agreement rules will be discussed to you.
B. Lesson Proper
1. Activity
Let’s play a game. Get ready and be counted. Listen as I give the instructions.

 Three (3) sets of flashcards with one word each card will be given to five groups.
 Each group will rearrange each set to form one meaningful sentence as fast as they could.
 The first group that can finish first deserves a prize and a big round of applause.
 The members of every group come in front to post the cards on the board for discussion.
2. Analysis
Now, while the correct sentences are being flashed on the screen, I want the whole class to read
one sentence after another orally.

There is a lady living in the mountain.

2. Do boys believe in fairies?

3. The boys and the girls are happy.

Process Questions:
1. What do you notice about the words inside the highlighted boxes?
2. What tense of the verb is used in the word inside each box?
3. Which of the word are singular? Plural?

This time, I will discuss with you additional three rules of subject-verb agreement through the given
examples.
SUBJECT-VERB Agreement Rules
4. In sentences beginning with here or there, the true subject follows the verb.

Examples: There is a fairy living in the mountain.


Here is the plant that can help us drive away mosquitoes.
There are ways on how to fight Dengue.
Here are the plants that can help us drive away mosquitoes.

5. In interrogative sentences, subjects don’t always come before verbs. Make sure you accurately
identify the subject before deciding on the proper verb form to use.

Examples: Does a dengue victim suffer from headache?


Do Papaya leaves help increase our platelet?

6. As a general rule, use a plural verb with two or more subjects when they are connected by and.

Examples: Mayor Jerry Treñas and the people of Iloilo City join together to help Dengue victims.
Cleaning the environment and applying mosquito repellant are ways to prevent
dengue.

3. Abstraction
What do we need to remember in the agreement between subject and the verb in a sentence?

4. Application

A. Complete Me Now. Read and analyze the given sentences, and choose the correct form of the verb.

3. The trees and the flowers (protect, protects) ______ the animals in the mountain.
4. Here (is, are ) _____ a dangerous beast taken from the mountain.

IV. Evaluation
Small Group Work
 The class will be grouped according to their favorite color.
 The first six (6) students to raise their hands when a color is called will compose the group.
 Orange, Pink, Blue, Violet and Green are the choices.
 The teacher will give each group the same amount of money with a denomination of P1000, P500,
P200, P100, P50 and P20.
 The group will read and analyze the given sentences and buy only the sentence which they think is
grammatically correct. If they buy the correct sentence then they can keep the money but if they
buy the wrong sentence then I will get their money.
 The group will receive the following points:
Highest – 30pts.
2nd – 28 pts.
3rd - 26pts
4th – 25 pts.
5th – 24 pts.

V. Assignment
Construct three (3) sentences for every Subject – Verb Agreement Rules you learned today. Write your
sentences in ½ crosswise.
