The plant tour for 5th year Mechanical Engineering students taking ME 522 –

Industrial Processes with Plant Inspection was held at the CALABARZON area last
November 6 to November 9, 2019. A total of seven destinations were covered by the said
plant tour. The first company was Toyota Motor Philippines School of Technology, INC.

Upon entering, Dr. George welcomed us and gave a motivational speech. He

focused on education. He emphasized that the current education is not enough. He
discussed the advantages of k-12 over k-10. He stressed that in these days, skill is more
important. Companies nowadays seek employees with high skill. He said that we should
learn something every day. Our goal should be to have a high technical skill. Always have
the presence of mind. Always think that whatever you know is not enough. Always push
yourself and be hungry for learning.

Then Sir Tito introduced the company. He said that Toyota Motor Philippines
School of Technology, INC. (TMP TECH), is a world-class technical training school at the
Toyota Special Economic Zone (TSEZ) in Santa Rosa, Laguna, started operations in
September 2013. A non-stock and non-profit educational institution, the school is geared
towards transforming the Philippines into a human resource development hub to meet the
needs of Global Toyota. Described as a “local training entity with a global perspective”,
TMP Tech is specifically established for the training of after-sales technicians who will be
deployed in service centers both here and abroad.

Founded by Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) Honorary Chairman Dr. Shoichiro

Toyoda and Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (TMP) Chairman Dr. George S.K.
Ty.TMP Tech’s mission is to produce highly-skilled Filipino workers for the growing
demand for Toyota technicians, both domestic and overseas. TMP Tech evolved from
TMP Chairman Dr. George S.K. Ty’s desire to express his gratitude to TMC for its
successful 25-year partnership with the Metrobank Group of Companies which he also
chairs; and to the Philippines for the many opportunities that the country has provided
him. Aside from his desire to give thanks to TMC and the Philippines, the establishment
of TMP Tech also came from Chairman Ty’s recognition of the Filipinos’ world-class talent
and the increasing demand for qualified automotive professionals. This realization
encouraged him to come up with a proposal to establish a technical school to develop
Filipino automotive technicians to meet the challenges of an expanding economy and
increasing motorization.
