1.1 Safety

WARNING

During operation of electrical devices some parts of the devices are inevitably live. Disregarding the hints may lead
to severe injuries or damages.
Proper transport, storage, installation and mounting and furthermore careful control and maintenance are
mandatory for faultless and safe operation of the device. If it is assumed, that safe operation is not possible any
more, the device has to be switched off immediately and furthermore it has to be protected against unintentional
reuse.

It has to be assumed, that safe operation is not possible any more if the device:

is visibly damaged

has been exposed to unfavorable conditions i.e. for a period of time outside the rated climatic limits (e.g.
storage outside allowed climatic limits without adaptation to the indoor environment, moisture
condensation)

has been exposed to heavy transport stress (e.g. drop from great height without visible external damage)

1.2 Qualified personnel

Are defined as persons, which are acquainted to installing, mounting, putting into service and operating the product
and which have the respective qualifications, a.s.o.

Education resp. training and furthermore authorization according to safety standards to switch on, switch
off, to isolate, to earth and to mark circuits and devices.

7 Setup of the external IEC 61850 box

The SCADA protocol IEC 61850 allows communication and remote control of a Trench device (e.g. EFC50(i) or
EFD500). The connection of IEC 61850 is realized via the standard Ethernet interface plug RJ45.

Principal function:

External EFC50(i) or EFD500

IEC 61850 Box

To Scada network
or PC for configuration

RJ45 (Ethernet) RS232

The actual state of the Trench device is transferred via RS232 (external cable) to a software – model, which runs at
the external IEC 61850 box. The external box communicates with the SCADA via Ethernet and provides the
SCADA with the desired information. Commands, which were sent by SCADA, will be transferred further by the
external box to the Trench device via RS232.

7.1 Necessary hardware preparations

In case of using an EFC20(i) Trench device, please connect the rear interface COM1 and COM-L1 of the
external IEC 61850 box with help of the attached Zero-Modem cable.

In case of using an EFC50(i) Trench device, please connect the rear interface COM2 and COM-L2 of the
external IEC 61850 box with help of the attached Zero-Modem cable (see example picture below).

In case of using an EFD500 Trench device, please choose a free available RS 232 interface on the back
side and assign the SCADA related interface to the chosen port. Then connect the chosen COM port of
the EFD500 Trench device to COM-L2 of the external IEC 61850 box with the attached Zero-Modem cable.

Several network parameters of the external IEC 61850 box may be set here. By pressing „SAVE“ all changes are
transferred to the card. Please consider that the new parameter settings will not be used by the device until the
parameter menu is left and the changes are stored (see example picture for EFC50(i) Trench device below).

You may also check the adjusted parameters in the IEC 61850- information screen (command line at item „I“ at the
example picture of an EFC50(i) Trench device below).

As next step the parameters of the external IEC 61850 box need to be configured. This can be done with the
attached PC-software tool „IEC 61850Configurator“.
Controller (at the RJ45 interface) and PC should be connected via LAN (with a “Cross-Over cable” in case of a
direct connection between the two devices or connection to a network with an ordinary LAN cable). Ethernet cables
are not included in the scope of supply.

7.3 Handling of the „IEC 61850Configurator“ - program

Install and start the „IEC 61850Configurator“:

A B

N J

L
I

H
K

G
C

D F

A.) If the program recognizes a device within the network, its MAC address will be shown in the upper left area of
the window. If a device is not found automatically, probably device and PC are not in the same network, but
separated by router, gateway, etc.

B.) In such case you might use “Alternate Search” (activate the small square left of “use”). Write in the IP-address,
which was already assigned within the menu of the Trench device. The factory standard address is
192.168.0.1. Then only the MAC address of the device with the selected IP address will appear.

C.) If necessary, this field may be used to load a new ICD-file on the device. First press on the button “Search..”
and enter the path of the ICD-file and open it. For initiating the data transfer please press “File Transfer” at the
menu point “Parameter”. After a successful transfer operation the file can be activated by pressing “Activate
Parameter / Reboot” at the same menu point as above.

Page 14 Version 1
External IEC 61850 Box March 2015
D.) If necessary, this field can be used to load the mapping – file (*.in) on the Trench device. First press the button
“Search..” and enter the path of mapping – file and open it. The file may be transferred with help of the
function “File Transfer” at the menu “Parameter”. After a successful transfer operation the file can be activated
by pressing “Activate Parameter / Reboot” at the same menu point as above.
Hint: Please enter the paths of the two items from C and D one by one and then activate and reboot
parameter together in one step.

E.) This field may be used to upload a new software version (*.rtb) for the external IEC 61850 box. Normally this
input field is grey, so it is not possible to enter data. For enabling this and other grey items, push the key
combination [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[P]. Then enter the password “*999*”. Please enter the right path and open the
suitable file. Transfer the file with the function „File Transfer“ at the menu point „Parameter”. Finally activate
the new software with the function „Activate Parameter / Reboot“.

F.) At this field the IED name and Access-Point name is displayed. This name must correspond with the ICD- and
mapping- file. After parameter transfer by pressing “Parameter Transfer”, the new parameters can be
activated by using the function „Activate Parameter / Reboot“.

G.) Indication of the ICD file name. This name has to be “Trench.icd”.

H.) IP address of the time server. This adjustment can be done in the menu of the Trench device as well.
Additionally the update interval (with the unit seconds) and the device which shall generate the time stamp
can be defined.

I,J.) Interface parameter of COM-L1 and COM-L2 of the external IEC 61850 box. At the Trench device a standard
baud rate of 115200 baud of COM-L2 is mandatory.

K.) At this area the suitable time zone may be adjusted, resp. the desired time shift may be defined. This time
shift will only be taken into consideration, if the little square of “use daylight time / normal time” is activated.

L.) By activating the square named „Use network parameters from icd file“ network parameters like IP address,
Subnet mask and Standard Gateway will be taken out of ICD-file which is stored at the external IEC 61850
box. If this square not activated, the network parameter will be taken directly from the external IEC 61850 box.
They might in this case also be adjusted at the Trench device directly (see point system configuration
SCADA LAN parameters).

Hint
The illustrated IP addresses of this manual are just examples. For choosing the suitable network parameters,
please contact your companies network engineer.

M.) At the area „Network“ the adjusted network parameters of the chosen device may be displayed, resp. changed.
If the desired device is not being displayed, a possible reason might be that your computer and the Controller
are not located in the same network (divided by Router, Gateway, etc.).

N.) With help of these buttons an ICD file, resp. mapping file which is located within the external IEC 61850 box
can be downloaded to your computer.
