ACTIVITY 1 : PLANT TISSUES

OBJECTIVES
 Observe and Identify the different types of simple and
complex plant tissue using the scanner, LPO and HPO.
 Compare the plant tissues in stems, roots, and leaves
 Compare the plant tissues in monocots and eudicots
 Determine the important functions of the different plant
tissues
Materials
 13 Prepared Slides of the Specimens
 A Microscope
 Pencil
 Ballpen
 Coloring Materials
 Lab Manual
PROCEDURE
 During the 2-hr. Bio laboratory Period:

1. Member 1 borrows the microscope from the technician.

2. Member 2 goes in front of the professor’s desk to get the prepared slides.
3. Member 1 switches the microscope on and checks the lenses to be used.
4. Our professor discusses (for the first 30 mins. of the period) the parts of the plant
tissues to be located from the prepared slides for the activity.
5. Member 3 and 4 takes down notes of the important information about the parts of
the plant tissues (i.e. objectives to be used, magnification, labels and scientific
name of the specimen)
6. Member 1 sets the prepared slides on the stage and adjusts the coarse and fine
adjustment knobs. Members should take turns to look at the microscope to check if
the image is clear.
7. The view from the microscope will then be photographed by Member 5 to serve as
the group’s reference for documentation and drawing illustrations for the laboratory
data sheets.
PROCEDURE (cont.)
 After the Laboratory Period (Completion of laboratory worksheets)

1. The group must have a group chat on facebook or at least a medium to

disseminate pictures and information.
2. Fill up the descriptions necessary for each slide.
3. Draw the image seen from the microscope for that specific slide.
4. Complete the drawing by adding labels.
5. Answer the questions found after the Data sheets.
6. Give your own conclusion.
7. Submit on time.
