Lesson AIMS:
- to predict the content of a text by using key words
- to scan for specific info
-to use nouns to form adjectives
- to give multiple meaning, antonyms and synonyms
-to develop students’ speaking, reading and writing skills

Objectives:
- to identify suffixes
-to use new formed adjectives in order to complete exercises
-to use previous vocabulary to give information
-to express interest in solving different types of exercises.

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE:
- vocabulary related to formal/informal/ neutral style

TIME: 50 minutes.
Activity 1 (3 minutes) –Warm up
The teacher greets the students and asks who is absent.

Lead – in- 6 min


Techer’s activity
The teacher write on the board the word DREAM and asks the students to
define the word and give synonyms.

Student’s activity
Give their opinions. Some of them may refer to dreams, hopes, expectations.
Skills: reading, speaking

Activity 2 (10 minutes) Reading comprehension


Teacher’s activity
The teacher writes the title of the lesson ‘’Dream on ‘’ and asks the students to
read the text from the page 36. While they are reading the students must replace
the missing sentence in each paragraph. The sentences are given by ex 4/37.
Answer key: 2C, 3E, 4A, 5D, 5B
The teacher translates the unknown words and eventually gives synonyms.
Possible unknown words:
to claim , to sit up, to take notice, phenomenon, to burst onto, audition
(auditioning), brand-new, bump into, to propose, to be blamed for, straight, send
off, to kick, apparently, trainee.
Student’s activity:
Some of the students might have problems with reading therefore the teacher
asks them to read.
In turns they read the text, translate or give information and synonyms about
some words from the text.
Skills: writing, listening, speaking
Type of interaction : frontal, S_T, T-Ss
Activity 3 (5 min)
Teacher’s activity :
The teacher asks the students to read silently the words given by ex 6/37 and
find the wrong definition.
Student’s activity
They work in pairs and write in their notebook the words they have found.
Skills: writing, reading , speaking

Activity 4(5 min)


Teacher’s activity:
The teacher asks the students to skim the article and write on their notebooks
the adjectives given by the ex 1/38. They also should write the endings
(suffixes) of the adjectives they found.
Student’s activity:
They work in pairs and write in their notebooks.
One of the students must write the suffixes on the board.
They eventually correct their answers.
Interaction: S-S, S-T, T-S.
Skills: reading, writing, speaking.

Activity 5 (10 min)


Teacher’s activity :
The teacher asks the students to use the exercise they read and complete the
table given in the annex 1.
The adjectives are: useful, painful, musical, noisy, beautiful, dangerous,
political, dirty, and famous.
The nouns are : use, pain, music, noise, beauty, danger, politics, dirt, fame.
The opposites are: useless, unpainful, -, quiet, ugly, safe, -, clean, unknown.
Student’s activity:
They write their answers on the board.
Interaction: S-S, S-T, T-S
Skills: writing , reading, speaking
Activity 6 (10 min)
Teacher’s activity:
Students must complete the exercise with the adjectives derived from the given
nouns.
The students must work in pairs and write their answers on the board.
Student’s activity:
They must work individually and compare their answers.
Skills: reading, writing , speaking

The teacher gives the students their homework –ex2/38.
