Parent-Teacher Communication

As I mentioned earlier, in my classroom I plan on sending home a “classroom newsletter”

every Friday. I decided on this idea since I felt a “progress report” would convey a constant check
on the students’ progress with their academic work which is important, but in kindergarten I feel
it is more beneficial to send home information to the parents about what will be happening in the
school in the next few weeks, and also what the previous week has looked like. I also feel that
positive comments about each student would promote kindness classroom and always serve as a
“good report card” to parents about their child that week. As I have learned, sometimes parents
really need to hear those positive comments about their students since they could not hear them a
lot. I think this will go a long way in establishing positivity in many areas of my students lives.
In this newsletter, I am encouraging communication between the teacher and the parent.
At the bottom of the page, I have included a section that the parent can tear off, sign, and write in
any comments or questions that they have, and I will respond to them. This will ensure that the
parents are reading it by requiring their signature, and it also will allow them to give me weekly
feedback or ask questions frequently. I have learned that often the hardest steps for parents is
initiating the contact with a teacher, so I want to eliminate any hesitations by providing the
opportunity for my parents to contact me each week. This concept will be thoroughly managed as
I will be sending this sheet out every Friday without question, so parents will expect this and it
will facilitate consistent, weekly communication throughout the year. As a teacher, I will commit
to this since I have made the promise to my students and teachers, and that is something I take
seriously. Below is an example of the newsletter I will send home to parents each Friday.
