PREFACE
Bismillahirahmanirrahim. First of all, we would like to thank to our very merciful god
ALLAH S.W.T because with ALLAH S.W.T blessed we manage to finish this report in time. On
behalf of my partner members, we would like to extend our appreciation to the many people who
helped and giving some idea in the accomplished of this report especially to our lecturer
MADAM SITI MARYAM BINTI ABDUL WAHAB because giving some guidance and taught
in the process of doing this report.
In leading, this report had make several difficult decisions and also difficulty in
finding materials and resources, but this obstacles finally solved when we co -operates with each
other very well.
This report is designed based on the format given and we hope that there is no mistake in
this report as we have work so hard put all of our effort to finish this report. There are numerous
illustrations which help recognition, clarification, and most effectively in putting the field work
procedure in a concrete form. Many are grouped together to allow helpful comparisons to be
made. I have deliberately avoided to going into refinements and discussed only the bare
essentials of the subject.
Lastly, but certainly not least, owes it success to the tireless efforts of each and every
group member. Their contributions and personal sacrifices are truly appreciated and hope this
will continue in the next practical and other report or project.

RAP1203A
INTRODUCTION

Our GEO 200, Engineering Survey II project practical task were done by our group. Our
group consists of 5 members. We also want to thank all the group members who are Ahmad
Farriz Bin Mahd Shah, Syed Azhan Bin Syed Hassan, Farwizatul Arisha Binti Abdul Aziz, Nur
Iliya Atikah Binti Ibrahim and Nur Khaliza Binti Ahamad Khir for giving a good teamwork and
dedication in making this task. We start our task which is precise leveling from standard bench
mark at car park near HEA. We did this project around UiTM PERLIS Campus.

First of all, we must know is, in the tacheometry surveying we must do control survey
first to get horizontal control by traversing then vertical control by leveling. The leveling method
should be used to transfer height from TBM to control stations. This procedure is important
because it will make detail survey using tacheometry work accurate and acceptable.

Then we must also know what detail and data that we need to record while doing this job.
The data that we want to observe and get are horizontal angle (bearing), vertical angle (zenith),
horizontal distance, vertical distance, slope distance, height of instrument and height of target.

In this task, as we know the main thing is our traverse because all of our tacheometry
work will depend on our traverse that we made. Traverse that we do must closed and first class.
Then, we use the traverse as horizontal control or datum and to choose any of our station as RO
to set the back bearing before we start our tacheometry survey. After completed all of this, we
carry on to our next process that is to observe any features that we want to describe in our plan.

RAP1203A
AIM AND OBJECTIVES

 To get the value of reduced level at every point of cross and long section.

 To get the landscape view of the curve.

 To get the land profile of the curve for the land widening.

 To determine execute of cut and fill of the curve.

 To prepare the new plan of the curve.

RAP1203A
LIST OF INSTRUMENTS USED

EQUIPMENT FUNCTION

Total station  This instrument is integrates theodolite and

EDM. Both angle and distance can be obtained
electronically using this instrument. We used 1
total station in this practical task.

Prism  Prism is a reflactors. We used 2 prisms in doing

this practical task.

RAP1203A
Tripod  A tripod provides stability against downward
forces and horizontal forces and movements
about horizontal axes.
 Used as a platform for supporting the weight and
maintaining the stability of some other object.

Picket  Pegs is used to mark the station

RAP1203A
Mini prism
 To put the mini prism as a display be for put the
prism.
 When laser enters at an angle to the face of the
prism, it is reflect
 Small prism

Tape  Observing an unknown distance between fixed

points.
 To find height of instruments and height of
target

RAP1203A
METHODOLOGY AND DATA PROCESSING

Procedure of Traverse :

1. Conduct a traverse consists of 5 stations which is started using assumed bearing to be the
Horizontal Control Points.
2. Set up the total station on station 2. Set up the prism at station 1 and station 3.
3. Using the total station, target the prism at station 1 through the telescope and focus the cross
hair on the target.
4. Then turn the horizontal and vertical slow motion screws to make sure the cross hair is
perfectly on the target.
5. Measure the distance and set the datum value into the total station using face left.
6. Then target the prism at station point 3. Then, record the bearing and distance value from
station 1 to station 3 as face left.
7. Turn the telescope 180ºvertically and target the prism at station point 1. Record the distance
and bearing obtained as face right.
8. Repeat step 2 until 7 for other stations. Then, move the total station to another station.

RAP1203A
Procedure of Longitudinal Section and Cross Section

1. From the line of traverse of curve establish the longitudinal section and establish 10 meter of
interval along the longitudinal section.
2. The interval should be 10 meters or nearest to 10 meter.
3. Then, after finished longitudinal section, establish cross section which perpendicular 90º to
longitudinal section.
4. The length of cross section 20 m and the 5 meter interval.
5. Firstly, the points of longitudinal section need to be planted with interval 10m from 0m to
30m and 0m to 40m. There are 2 line of longitudinal section, line from Station 2 to Station 1
and from Station 2 to Station 3.
6. Then, the Reduced Level for each of the longitudinal section points were calculated and
recorded from Station 2.
7. After that, the total station is set up on each of the longitudinal section points with calculated
Reduced Level. Then, the Station 1 is used as the back sight, and turn to 90º from the back
sight. With interval of 5m from 0m to 20m, the details were collected along the line. The
steps were repeated for the line 270º from the back sight.
8. The step 7 is repeated for the rest of the longitudinal section points.
9. The data were recorded manually by hand and automatically by instrument.
10. The data were downloaded and used as the input data for the Civil, Design and Survey (CDS)
and AutoCAD to be processed.
11. Next, by using the data processed by the CDS and AutoCAD, the drawing plans were drawn
with specified format.
12. The longitudinal and cross section profiles were obtained.

RAP1203A
Procedure of Tacheometry :

1. Firstly, control surveying is carried out by traversing fieldwork for horizontal control and
levelling for vertical control.
2. Set up instruments at stations in control network that is in the traversing network. Set RO
(reference object) of the station. Measure and record the instruments heights of the station (hi)
and height of the target at observed features [center of the prism (reflector) above the bottom of
the detail pole].
3. Select a nearby control station as reference object (RO). Target this point and record the
horizontal circle reading.
4. Data to be collected for features detail surveying using total station are horizontal and vertical
angles, horizontal and slope distances. Detail surveying consists of the surrounding features
within the stations such as tree, building, fence, etc.

CONCLUSION
As a conclusion, in designing the road curve vertical and horizontal control is important
because, with the control point we can know about the other point. The vertical control is can be
done by leveling. The leveling is to define the reduce level of every points. The leveling that we
do is close with the acceptable tolerance that required. The horizontal control is can be define by
traverse. The traverse is to define the position of the point. Our traverse is acceptable and for the
linear misclose is in first class tolerances. The detail that we take is to show all the features at the
site. Detailing is important in planning the working to design curve. The longitudinal section and
cross section is important to get the land profile. With all these work, we can get the overview of
the land surface to be constructed. It is important to do it all before the construction work start
because we need to analyse it to use in term of accuracy, economical, man power to be used,
details to be surveyed, and preparation of site plan.
Design road curve is important as a step of a safety for the passenger. With the good
planning of curve, it can give safety and comfort to the driver while they passing through the
road. The bad design will give driver problem in control their vehicle because of the sudden
changing road curve and it will cause accident. With the curve, we can control the force slowly
and gradually to give passenger safety and comfort.
