Use your hands to gesture and explain your points. Marks will be awarded for 3

Although it is true that locals should have a role in promoting their hometown because it
improve their economy, Nevertheless, I believe that it also comes with a fair amount of
disadvantages toward locals economy.

Jobs can be seasonal - especially in beach and skiing based resorts. People can therefore find
themselves out of work in the close season.

Seasonal Fluctuations. Tourism jobs are quite commonly seasonal and insecure, with no extra
benefits such as pensions, sick pay, or healthcare. Some areas can be inundated with visitors during
busy times, and then virtually deserted for many months.

Although it is true that locals should have a role in promoting their hometown because it improve
their economy, Nevertheless, I believe that it also comes with a fair amount of disadvantages toward
locals economy

First and foremost, the locals may become too dependent on tourists' revenue and risking loss and
damage as a result of it.

If the locals economy, is solely dependent on tourism, then such an economy will be vulnerable to
natural calamities, terrorism or local unrest etc. For example the earthquake that shattered Nepal,
left the locals economy tattered. The main source of income of Nepal is from tourism, and mostly
from India. Once Indians decreases their visit to Nepal, not only the locals contend with the calamity,
they were also left without jobs. Even now it has not yet fully recover from this situation.

In contast, Because of terrorists activities The europe countries like France, Belgium and Germany
are facing the same situation. But for Europe countries, tourism is not their main source of income.
Therefor their locals are able to sustain themselves

After that, Unemployment in the tourism industry is likely to arise in times of economic recession. In
periods of economic recession, prices of goods and services are expected to increases. Due to that,
the price of air tickets will increases too, and will discourange tourist to travel, which result in a
decline of tourist income. Therefore, it will cause economy problems to the local

Secondly, Although jobs are created by tourism, but most are relatively low-level such as bartender,
hotels workers, restaurant workers , and so forth. These low-wage, low-skill workers have little
prospect for advancement or promotion.

Especially Foreign companies are known to hire non-resident seasonal workers because they can pay
those individuals with lower wages, which further contribute to the economy disadvantages for
locals.

Then it also causses even severe Imbalanced in term of Funding between tourism and locals
welfare programs. In long period of time, Money may end up being directed to maintain and
develop tourist areas instead of where it could be used more effectively such as education, medical
aid, housing program, supplement security income, and so on.

For instance, due to expansion of tourism industry, part of the funding that supposedly being given
to the hospitals is being taken away and spend on tourism, causing lower quality of medical services
being offer to the locals

Thus, causing locals to suffer because of involvement of locals in promoting their hometown.

next, if locals involve in promoting their hometown, generally it will increases the amount of tourist
and income for the local community, nonetheless, the inexorable expansion of the tourism industry
due to involvement of locals can be disadvantageous as it may cause inflation. Tourists will spend
their money on hotels, transportations, foods, clothes, etc. This may cause the aggregate demand to
escalate, resulting in inflation.

This will cause unbearable stress toward the locals as prices of rents, Meals, Clothing, and normal
grocery increases significantlty.

Finally, Tourism Jobs may be seasonal. Tourism jobs are quite commonly seasonal Some areas can
be inundated with visitors during peak seasons, and then virtually deserted for many months.
therefor People can find themselves unemployed during the low tourist season. with no extra
benefits such as pensions, sick pay, or healthcare.

For example September to October is the rainy season in Langkawi and this is
the period which most tourists like to avoid.causing some of Langkawi hotel being close during
that time, hence causing unemploment for the locals

Thus, in my humble opinion locals should not have a role in promoting their hometown.

Pay level is a broad, comparative concept that refers to how an organization’s pay incentives
compare, in general, to those of other organizations in the same industry employing similar kinds of
workers.
