Course Outcomes: Through this course students should be able to

CO1 :: describe the frequency response of amplifier and role of feedback in amplifier circuit.

CO2 :: analyze and design oscillators and filters using functional ICs

CO3 :: develop op-amp circuits to perform arithmetic operations.

CO4 :: analyze and design linear and non-linear applications using op-amps.

CO5 :: choose appropriate A/D and D/A converters for signal processing applications

Feedback amplifiers : Classification of amplifiers, The feedback concept, General characteristics of
negative feedback amplifiers, Effect of negative feedback upon output and input resistances, Voltage
series feedback, Current series feedback, Current shunt feedback, Voltage shunt feedback
Frequency Response of Amplifier : Distortion in amplifier, frequency response of an amplifier, low
frequency response of an RC coupled stage, high frequency response of an FET stage
Unit II
Power Amplifiers : Class A large signal amplifiers, second harmonic distortion, transformer coupled
audio power amplifier, efficiency, push-pull amplifiers, class B amplifiers, class AB amplifiers
Unit III
Oscillators : Sinusoidal oscillators, RC phase shift oscillator, wien bridge oscillator, general form of
oscillator circuit, hartley LC oscillators, collpit oscillator
Introduction to Operational amplifiers : The operational amplifier, block diagram of typical op-
amp, schematic symbol, characteristics of operational amplifier
Unit IV
Operational amplifier configuration : The ideal op-amp, equivalent circuit of an opamp, ideal
voltage transfer curve, open loop op-amp configurations, op-amp with negative feedback, block
diagram representation of feedback configurations, voltage series feedback amplifier, voltage shunt
feedback amplifier, differential amplifiers
Unit V
Operational amplifier applications I : Summing scaling and averaging amplifiers, instrumentation
amplifier, voltage to current converter with floating load, voltage to current converter with grounded
load, current to voltage converter, the integrator, the differentiator, introduction to active filters, first
order low pass Butterworth filter, first order high pass Butterworth filter, band pass filter, band reject
filter, all pass filter, square wave generator, triangular wave generator, sawtooth wave generator,
voltage controlled oscillator
Unit VI
Operational amplifier applications II : Introduction to comparators and converters, basic
comparator, zero crossing detector, schmitt trigger, voltage limiters, voltage to frequency and
frequency to voltage converters, analog to digital and digital to analog converters, sample and hold
circuit, The 555 timer, Phase locked loops
