What does the term career refer to?

= This is an occupation undertaken for a significant period of
a person's life and with opportunities for progress.

What are five factors that you should considered when

choosing a career?
= 1. Do I have the competency necessary to be successful?
If you’re a perfect fit based on your current education, skills, and
experience, hat’s off. Finding the perfect fit is often the exception
rather than the rule.

2. Am I passionate about the work?

If you truly enjoy your work, it cannot help but spill over into the way
you execute it. Experiencing drudgery day in and out in the name of
financial security can be taxing.
3. Will I have the lifestyle that I want?
Is life—work balance important to you? If so, do some preliminary
research. Find out what the industry standards are, as well as what
people on the ground are experiencing. Does this industry/employer
allow a flexible work schedule? Commuting? Working incessant
overtime, weekends, and engaging in regular travel may put the
squeeze on your downtime, as well as significantly impact your
personal life. If that’s to be expected, wouldn’t you want to know
before you dove in headfirst?

4. What’s the current salary and earning potential?

You should know before signing on the dotted line. This will help you
determine whether you’ll be working to simply get by or can save and
engage in some discretionary spending from time to time.

5. What is the culture like?

Will you feel like just another cog in the wheel or will your contributions be
recognized–encouraged even? Are there layers of bureaucracy seeded
throughout? Is this a fast-paced industry that is more concerned with the bottom
line? Are there industry perks available that encourage performance and
contribute to morale? By looking before, you leap, you can make an informed
career decision that will serve you well in the long run.
To your success.
How Can Technology Impact Careers?

Information technology has significantly advanced the way

businesses do business and the way people do their jobs all
over the world. Data, information and research are available at
the speed of light, and workers everywhere have access to it.
Be it on the Internet, on a company intranet or on a mobile
phone or some other type of electronic device, the technology
is farther along now from than ever before, with new advances
progressing daily.

Smart organizations have been increasingly using

technology to improve employee retention, enhance
talent management and raise levels of engagement. For
example, self-assessment tools are the cornerstone of
career development programs, which allow employees to
gauge their interests, personalities, values, skills in order
to help them reach their goals and dreams. Online tools
measure gaps, track progress, increase self-awareness,
develop career goals and help to plan a strategy, while
carefully aligning personal goals with institutional culture.
Importance of Technology In the 21st Century
First: The addition of technology into the classroom can help transform the
classroom experience from a classic teacher centered one into a student-centered
experience – with students taking a more active role in their learning. In a
student-centered classroom, the teacher becomes more of a guide as the
students engage with and tackle the day’s lesson. And there is nothing better than
seeing your students fully engaged! It is important to understand that integrating
technology into the classroom is by no means a replacement for an effective
teacher. To put it simply, the ideal classroom environment would be one that is
student centered and includes a carefully selected blend of instructional
technologies with face-to-face communication.
Second: Technology provides teachers and students with access to a variety of
educational resources that inspire creativity, critical thinking, communication, and
collaboration.
 It promotes inclusion and the development of digital literacy skills.
 It extends learning beyond the text – and beyond the classroom walls.
 It ultimately exposes students and teachers to new online global
communities. This in turn promotes a global awareness, which is an
essential component to a 21st century education.
Third: We all know that there has been, and will continue to be, different levels of
students in our classrooms – and with uniquely important learning needs.
Through the use of instructional technology, differentiated instruction can be
made much easier. It can become more of a reality! With differentiated
instruction, students are provided an education that is personalized – and that
meets them where they are, developmentally. More students are able to benefit
from this type of instruction. The use of technology also provides students access
to very rich learning materials outside of the classroom.
Finally, it is of paramount important that while in school, students use
tools that will best prepare them for their future academic and
professional experiences. – This includes a blend of new tech and old
tech. Integrating technology into the classroom provides students with
a set of skills to navigate through the variety of online tools we have
today! It also provides teachers opportunities to educate students on
digital citizenship and the new challenges to academic integrity.
