WRITING THE RECOMMENDATIONS

After you have identified the problem and causes in your conclusion, you are now ready to
make suggestions on how to overcome the problem. This suggestion on how to overcome
the problem is called a recommendation.

Thus if you have a conclusion such as below, a good recommendation is

choice of books and reference
materials in the library is
unsatisfactory. This is because
there are not many titles available
in certain areas. In addition many

Recommendations
It is recommended that the library encourage
lecturers to inform the library immediately of any
new books used as recommended reading
materials so that it can purchase the reading
materials for the students. The library can send
forms to lecturers to get information of new
reading materials at least once a semester.

The library should also subscribe to more journals

and magazines.

2. Most library patrons do not like to
stay in the library for long because
it is too cold. They also say that
sometimes there are not enough
seats especially during the
examination week.
It is suggested that in order to encourage students
to spend more time at the library, the library should
be installed with air-conditioners that can regulate
room temperature so that the temperature remains
constant. In addition, the numbers of seats at the
library should be increased. The library can flip
chairs that can be stowed away when the number
of patrons at the library is low and used wjhen
there are a lot of people using the library.

1. Your recommendation must be based on the problems identified in your conclusions.
2. You may make several recommendations based on one conclusion.
3. Your recommendation is a plan of action. In other words, it is the action that should be
taken by a person / department / organisation. Avoid from recommending the respondents
to take action.
4. Organise your recommendations in an orderly fashion such as based on your conclusions.
