MY PERSONAL GOALS

A. Family & Home

I am now living with only my wife here in Abu Dhabi as our

children already have their own lives to live, busy carving
their own niche, so to speak. So, one of my goals now is to
acquire a 700-square meter lot in our hometown in Tayabas
City, Quezon Province where we could spend our remaining years
together in a simple house with a 500-square meter floor area,
a porch, a wide lawn with a 100-square meter floor area guest
house, surrounded with fruit-bearing trees, a garage for our
car, and in a very serene location where the morning and
evening breeze will bring about a relaxing mood while we talk
about everything and anything. Our house will become our
home where our children with their families can spend weekends
or vacation. Me and my wife will spend more time together
having an “impromptu” couple date night out, movie night, go
with a long drive once a month, and I could even start my
long-dreamt of garden. I am giving myself three years to
achieve these goals of acquiring a lot and building a house
for my family.

B. Financial & Career

It is quite unfortunate that I was “demoted” from being an

HR Manager to Academic Coordinator this year with no apparent
reason but to be replaced by the son of the school owners.
This so, my salary was brought back to AED 5,000 from 7,500.
It was just fortunate that I don’t have any debt to pay but
the monthly amortization of the car I bought as a gift to our
youngest son in fulfillment of our promise for his graduation
and passing of the Medical Technology board. So my goals now
are (1) to continuously pay for the remaining two years of
the said car’s amortization, (2) take action to achieve my
goal for my family – the 1st goal, (3) save for my retirement,
(4) finish my doctoral studies within the stipulated year to
complete it, (5) live below our means, and (6) take all the
opportunities that come my way for additional income. I am
definitely sure that the achievement of all these goals depend
on the completion of my doctorate degree as opportunities
will come my way. In the first place I only have two options
to do to achieve all of these goals – teach and train, as an
educator, and write – as a writer. This so, the only goal I
have in as far as my career is concerned will be to acquire
a permit from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to be
a trainer of educators in the belief that I can only lift the

 standards of education being provided learners with the
raising of teachers standards of teaching. I am giving myself
three years to achieve all these goals.

C. Spiritual & Ethical

I have experienced occupying many positions in the fields

that I went into – from the movie & television industry to
the academe. I was given the opportunity to be in the movie
and television industry as a scriptwriter because of my God.
I actually asked an opportunity to write a movie script, just
one, and it’s enough. He didn’t give me just but a lot –
from 1987 to 2007. I knew it came from Him as the one who
was instrumental in giving me a break and the directors’ names
for my first three movies start with “J” – I was given a break
by Jesse Ejercito thru Joey del Rosario for my first movie
who also directed the second movie I have written. My third
movie was directed by Jose Javier-Reyes produced by Joey
Gosiengfiao. This is not to mention another movie in the
life of Eddie Peregrina which didn’t materialize and supposed
to be directed by J. Erastheo Navoa. Since then until now I
never fail to communicate, to talk, to make “sumbong” to my
God and He never fails to give me His blessings and favors in
His time. It is therefore this reason that I never doubted
anything “bad” that comes my way as I know He is into something
great for me. The things He did for me made me more
understanding. I may be strict in the workplace but I know
it does not make me a “bad” person.
But after some introspection before making this assignment,
I arrived at some goals that, I’m sure, will merit the
“approval” of my God since these goals relied on what He told
us – “Whatever you do to the least of my brothers you did it
to me.” These goals are:
1) Make comments that do not injure or hurt other people’s
esteem
2) Be more understanding to people’s – my co-teachers and
students – faults; be more considerate
3) To be more “remedial” than to be judgmental – to be able
to preserve relationships rather than to break it
4) Follow where my God leads me
5) Further deepen my relationship with Him thru prayers
6) Always seek His guidance to any decision I make
7) Easily forgive

D. Physical & Health

 I am no longer as physically active as I was once before
where I could play basketball, table tennis, badminton, or
volleyball for hours, enrolled myself in Aikido class (which
I was not able to continue because of my decision to come to
the UAE). However, my age is not a reason for being physically
inactive. So my goal now is to start, again, my walking every
afternoon – since I cannot afford the fees charged by fitness
gyms. Also, I will minimize my smoking from a pack a day to
half towards totally eliminating this vice in two to three
years.

E. Social & Cultural

As I started being into theater when I was in Grade 8, my

goal is to continue offering my services to those who want to
organize their own theater group. My involvement in theater
ranges from being a theater organizer, workshop facilitator,
play director, lighting director, playwright, among others.
I even conducted recently a team-building activity for
teachers thru theater and improvisation as I believe that
anyone will learn discipline and teamwork aside from enhancing
their “dormant” creativity thru theater. Additionally, I
believe that theater, thru my years of experience, provides
the best social opportunity for anyone since interactions in
theater builds positive relationship thru collaboration. It
is in this belief that I always take it as a privilege to be
invited as a resource person in theater – whether in
organizing a group, in playwriting, or creative writing as I
am also a 1st prize winner in Palanca Awards for Literature
as a Short Story in Filipino writer.

F. Mental & Educational

My goals for this aspect is to continue my professional

education even after the completion of my doctoral degree.
This is to ensure that I am always at the forefront of
development as a professional in my chosen career in
education. This goal is aligned with my goal of personal
development not only as a person but a professional. In
improving my personal skills in communication, teamwork, and
leadership, I am doing myself service as I could achieve both
short and long-term goals easier. Another goal is to continue
my reading habits and allot at least two hours to read. Being
a bookworm has lots of positive effect. It will open up doors
to new knowledge and information. This so, I will continue
doing research especially in the new trends in strategies,

 techniques, pedagogies in education which I could, not only
practice in my classroom, but also to share with my colleagues
in the academe. One of my short-term goal is to finish the
compilation of “Authentic Assessment Tasks” which I plan to
share with my co-teachers in PEPS for the benefit of the
learners.
