Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Teaching SCIENCE 9

I. Objectives: At the end of 60-minute period, the learners should be able to demonstrate the following
skills with at least 80% level of proficiency:
1. Distinguish climate from weather;
2. Explain how different factors affect the climate of an area; and
3. Actively participate in the discussion.

Competency: S9ES-IIIe-30 Explain how different factors affect the climate of an area
II. Subject Matter: CLIMATE
Topic: Climate and the factors that affect it.

Materials: Book, PowerPoint Presentation

III. Procedure:
A. Initiatory Phase
1. Prayer
2. Review of the Past Lesson- The teacher will ask the following questions to the students:
 What is the difference between active and inactive volcano?
 What are the positive and negative effects of volcanic eruption?
3. Motivation
-The teacher will show pictures to the students through slide presentation and will ask them some
questions.

B. Developmental Phase
1. Presentation of the New Lesson- The teacher will present the new lesson
2. Learning Activity- The learners will do the following activities:
Activity 1: When the Sun’s Rays Strike
Activity 2: The Higher, the cooler
3. Discussion
-The students will discuss the following:
 Why do areas near the equator tend to have higher temperatures?
 How does latitude affect the climate of a certain place?
 How does altitude affect the climate of a certain place?

C. Concluding Phase
1. Application
-The class will be divided into five. Each group will be given a situation to deal with.
2. Generalization
-The teacher will ask the students these following questions:
 What is the difference between weather and climate?
 How do altitude and latitude affect climate?

IV. Evaluation:
-The teacher will give a short quiz.

V. Assignment:
Directions: Search the 5 main types of climate. Write your answers on a piece of paper.
