The field of finance is both a challenging and rewarding field of study. It covers a broad spectrum
of topics including but not limited to pricing of financial assets, including bonds, currencies, and
derivative securities; the evaluation of financial risks; banking and financial intermediation;
corporate governance.
In addition to the practical relevance of finance to industry, the field poses many interesting
academic questions as well and a mathematical framework as to how we can address those
questions. Knowledge of finance is also crucial when we want to understand economic
phenomena like international capital flows and monetary policies.
Finally, finance is an extremely remarkable field that draws from a large literature including but
not limited to economics, mathematics and statistics, operations research, engineering,
computer science and history.
