CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

Research Design

The descriptive-evaluative research design will be used to determine the

effectiveness of the Riverbank protection from the evaluation made by the Civil

Engineer evaluators in terms of materials, methods used and usability. These

designs will reveal the effectiveness of the Riverbank protection.

Locale of the Study

The study will be conducted at Colongulo, Surallah, South Cotabato.

Research Instrument
The research instrument for the study will be the Gabion, Evaluation and

Validation Instrument.

The validation instrument developed by the researcher will be the main

treatment instrument for this study. It will be based on the design criteria of the

constructed riverbank protection, which will help evaluators to attain a wide range

of objectives at their own pace. Topics included in Assessment of Riverbank

Protection will be the design, materials and methods used. Assessment tool will

be conducted with the use of questionnaire purposely to analyze it carefully and

accurately. The researcher himself will evaluate and analyze the tool.

Evaluation and validation instrument will be answered by the Civil

Engineer-evaluators. They will be evaluating the Assessment tool to the extent of

its Content, Accuracy and Timeliness, Appropriateness, Technical Quality and

Usability. For the evaluation and validation of the panel of the experts, a scale of

three (3) was used with corresponding interpretation.

The Sampling Design and Respondents

Every Civil Engineer in the population will be subjected to the study.

Validation Procedure
The prepared evaluation and validation instrument for the Assessment of

Riverbank Protection will be given to three (3) Civil Engineer Professors for the

purpose of getting their assessment, comments, suggestions or other course of

action to ascertain the assessment tool content validity.

Meanwhile, the assessment tool will be evaluated and validated by the

researcher.

Data Gathering Procedure

To get the desired information from the respondents, researcher will be

securing a permission to conduct the study from the office of the Dean of College

of Engineering, a comparable consent will be given to the Engineering Office of

the 1st District DPWH in South Cotabato at Koronadal City.

At this point, the Assessment of riverbank protection will be compiled and

modified by the researcher. It will be evaluated and validated using the

Evaluation and validation instrument. Evaluation and validation tool will be

coming from the project design of the existing riverbank protection. The

researcher will going to give the Assessment tool personally to the evaluators to

set up truthfulness, discipline and trustworthiness.

The tool will be administered by the researcher in the respective offices of

the engineers for a well-managed assessment. The data will be checked and

analyzed to get accurate results of the assessment.

Statistical Treatment of Data

The following statistical tools will be utilized to answer the statement of the

problem.

The researcher used the weighted mean and the 3-point Likert Scale in

the evaluation and validation of the Basic English Speech Support (audio and

transcription) as to its content, accuracy and timeliness, appropriateness (pacing

and language), technical quality and usability.

This interpretation was adapted and modified from Smaldino, Lowther and

Russel (2008) Rating Scale.

Interpretation of the Totaled Scores for Basic English Speech Support

Interval Description

2.34-3.00 High Quality

1.67-2.33 Medium Quality

1.00-1.66 Low Quality

Secondly, the researcher used the simple mean and the 4-point Likert

Scale to describe the performance of the respondents in pre-test and post-test of

both control and experimental group.

This interpretation was adapted and modified from Advance Learning

Technologies in Education (2007) Rating Scale.

Interpretation of the Totaled Scores for Basic English Speech Support

Interval Description

3.25-4.00 Excellent

2.50-3.24 Satisfactory

1.75-2.49 Fair

1.00-1.74 Needs Improvement

Furthermore, t-test was utilized for the computation of the significant

difference on the pronunciation skills between the control group and experimental

group in the pre-test and in the post-test and significant difference between the

mean gain scores of the control and experimental groups on the pronunciation

skills.
