 SCHOOL NAME: ASHRAM SCHOOL

 PLACE NAME: KONARK

 STRENGTH OF THE SCHOOL:

 KEY FINDINGS: The key findings are

 The school provides education only to the Sc and St students up to 8th standard. It is running under
the Sc and St Development Department of Odisha.
 This is a boarding school which provides hostel facilities both to Boys and Girls. The Government
bear the cost of those hostels.
 The playground has not discovered to be safe to play mainly at monsoon season, so they school
authority didn’t received the NOC from the competent authority.
 There are books to read but no proper library settings. Also, the school authority arranged some
instruments for practical projects, but there is no laboratory setup.
 The CCTV monitoring is there only near hostel premises.
 There is separate kitchen for cooking mid-day meal and for cooking food for hostels.
 The psychosocial aspects of students are observed, maintained, regulated and treated by the
LIFESKILL EDUCATOR (superintend of the hostels), HM and her School management committee.

 OBSERVATIONS:

a) SCHOOL BUILDING: The school building is constructed by Odisha Government. As an apex body of
elementary education, this school is maintained and funded by the State Government. There is
electric facility which is in proper working condition. Toilets and Bathrooms are having adequate
water facility with inspections and regulations.
b) FIRE SAFETY MANAGEMENT: Already having a fire safety certificate, there are extinguishers, water
management systems and emergency contacts numbers in case of weird situation.
c) Earthquake Management: The main building is not safe from Earthquake, but 2 hostels are secured
enough to be free from such disaster condition. And there is no effect of NDMA Guidelines. Services
are restricted to the power and supervision of State Government.
d) Flood/Cyclone/landslide management: The school is being situated near Bay of Bengal, but there are
enough mechanisms offered by the school authority itself.
e) ELECTRICAL SAFETY: The electric facility is being maintained and supervised by the Konark Electric
Committee.
f) Safety from constructional hazards: There is no hazards related to threating of life. There is
construction of Dining hall for Hostel Girls’ which has undertaken by the contractors and there is no
entry zone also.

g) Safety in the playground and sports activities: Following the guidelines of Sorts Authority of India,
there is all facilities for sorts programmes and male and female trainers and a non-teaching staff for
maintenance of sports material.
h) Water safety: there are total 2 purifiers for potable drinking water and there is also hand pump for
occasional use in case of unavailability of services.
i) THE SCHOOL HAS NO LABORATORY ROOM FOR PRACTICAL OR TESTINGS.
j) THERE IS NO TRANSPORT SERVICES IN TEEMS OF SCHOLLM BUS OR VAN.
k) TRAUMA MANAGEMENT: There are superintend, warden, matron, HM as of members of Trauma
Management Team and they are equipped with all contact numbers., and they are working with
best handlining.
l) Safety of the children with disabilities: there are no facilities for disabled students.
m) Health: They provide periodic (twice in month) health check-up facilities with the help of PHCs. And
the hostel superintends used to keep medical records of treatments and referral services. The school
has arranged life skill classes to make the students aware of health educations. The role of meal
planners/dietician is headed over the School Management Committee. The school facilitate free
sanitary napkins for the girls residing at hostel. The teachers use to keep contact with the parents
about the students. Water lodging issue is predominant. In kitchen, food and utensils are uncovered
and worker are not maintaining standard health and hygiene sanitation.
n) Safety of Children against Sexual Abuse: The life skill education has taken all responsibilities
regarding the sex education and has defined all the precautions to take over any issue with help of
the superintend as in charge for proposal of any kind of grievances and redressals. The school
management committee is also working in collaboration with that kind of issues effectively. The
books on Life Skill Education has a greater impact on the psychosocial activities of teaching staff,
non-teaching staff, students, and the workers.

CONCLUSION
During the time of school auditing, there were so many questions that were totally unknown to the
respondents. As it is a government school, so many facilities don’t exist there. Even, all the
construction has not initiated by the any of the school staff .so they are not aware about the
National Building Code of India 2005.because of not having proper knowledge about the various
competent authorities the school authority can’t even apply for mitigating their concern issues.
There is casualness in case of taking care of health and hygiene. Overall, being an apex body of free
elementary education, the school can be rated moderate in terms of indicative checklist for safety
inspections in school as per guidelines of NCPCR.
