POVERTY IN AMERICA AND IMPROVING SOCIAL WELFARE THROUGH PUBLIC
EDUCATION
The wealthiest country in the world “America” has so many citizens living in poverty,
because the higher opinion of economic policy in the U.S don’t get enough attention this days
from their leader. In America, there are strong disagreement about ways to improve the
economic conditions of American citizens, because their leader seems far more interested in
fighting personal battles rather than the view of economic policy. I believe there might seem to
be an improvement in the economic condition of millions of American citizens if their leaders
are more concerned about the economic condition of the country. In order to improve the
economic condition of millions of American families, social welfare policy should be promoted,
citizens should be encouraged to stop living in poverty either by choice or chance, and most
importantly improving the equal education opportunity.
Firstly, in order to improve the economic condition of millions of American families,
social welfare policy should be promoted. Government should help individuals meet their basic
needs, including food, clothing, and shelter. Although American is far better off economically
than most of the countries in the worlds, poverty is still a significant and persistent problem in
the United States. Poverty in America affects individuals of all ages, races, religions, and
regions. Children are one the largest groups of poor Americans. Poverty is also common among
minority-groups. I believe government can help families whose incomes fall below the poverty
line so they can meet their basic needs, by promoting social welfare policy.
In addition, citizens should be encouraged to stop living in poverty either by choice or
chance, in order to improve the economic condition of millions of American families. Many
American citizens hold unto the idea that poverty is a matter of choice because they are not
willing to make the effort to engage in a responsible job and get ahead in life. “Charles Murray
the author of the book Losing Grounds, argues in his book that America has a permanent
underclass of unproductive citizens who prefer to live on welfare and whose children receives
little educational encouragement at home and grow up to be copies of their parents.” (para.7).
such citizens should be encouraged by the government so as to stop living in poverty by choice.
Also, most poor Americans are in their situation as a result of circumstance rather than choice. A
full time job doesn’t guarantee that a family will rise above the poverty line. For example, a
family of four with one employed adult who works forty hours a week at $7 an hour (minimum
wage level) has an annual income of about $14,500, which is below the poverty line.
Government can help encourage such family in order to stop living in poverty.
Lastly, the most important way to improve the economic condition of millions of
American families is by improving the equal education opportunity. The public school has been
seriously criticized because it plays a large role in creating equal opportunity in the society.
Poor citizens should be given training and education so that they can learn to help themselves.
Also, individuals should be given equal chance to succeed on their own by giving them equality
of education.
In conclusion, I believe In order to improve the economic condition of millions of
American families, there should be a promotion in social welfare policy, citizens should be
encouraged to stop living in poverty either by choice or chance, and most importantly
educational opportunities should be enhanced. There is a strong disagreement on the ways to
improve the economic conditions of American families, because their leader seems far more
interested in fighting personal battles rather than the view of economic policy. The country is
now wandered with violence and racial character, which is causing less reason to think about
how to improve the economic condition of millions of American families.
