The Name of IHVH

Why “Yeh” and not “Yah”?
i

Psalm 9:10 THOSE WHO KNOW YOUR NAME TRUST YOU, because you, oh ‫הוהי‬,
. do not abandon those who seek you.

To Know the SHEM of the Unique SALVADOR of YisraEL is not only to know Him by His
distinctive name, but also to have faith in Him, learning about His way of being, His
qualities and standards, His plans and purposes for the life of those who fear Him. This
knowledge of who the Elohim of Yisrael is and how is He, is what gave David absolute
confidence, author of Psalm 9.

This same trust will be found in the souls of all those who, like David, come to know
the Name of the Elohim of Yisrael, along with His character and will.

What is a name?
Let's see how the meaning of the Hebrew word for "name" is defined.

H8034

‫ שֵׁ ם‬shem
A primitive word = an appellation,
as a mark or memorial of individuality; by implication honor, authority, character:
-famous, known, fame, famous, illustrious, list, to name, name, renown.

Let's see an example to understand the depth of the meaning:

When we see a name like "King David", we see the word "king" as a title and "David"
as a name.

1
-En Defensa De LA VERDAD-
In our occidental mind a title describes a character trait, while a name is simply an
identifier.

In the Hebrew language there is no such distinction between names and

titles.

Both words, King and David, are descriptions of character traits. The King is "the one
who reigns," while David is "one who is loved.
It is also common to identify the word "Elohim" as a title and IHVH (YeHoVaH) as a
name.
Note: The Hebrew title "elohim" is mistranslated with the title “god”.

What they doesn't realize is that both are the same IHVH, which is an acrostic,
an appellative that describes the divine Being "that exists by Itself", while "Elohim"
defines the Title that belongs to IHVH.

Elohim is a Hebrew word that describes a person who: "has power and authority".

The Hebrew word "shem" literally means "character, and reason for being.

When the Scriptures speak about "bringing Elohim`s name to the nations," it is
not just about going with the simple name, but about showing how He is. The Torah
commandments are the reflection of His character.

The commandment not to take Elohim's name in vain means, in addition to using it
correctly, not to represent His character in a false way, as when He is represented as a
cruel tyrant or a simple love, which lets everything pass, without a notion of justice. It
is similar to our expression of "having a good name," that is not just about the name
itself, but about the character and purpose of that name.

When Moses asked what is the name of the One who manifested to him in the bush
that was not consumed, or who will tell the Hebrew people that sent him to them, he
received the following words:
Exodus 3:13-15 Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh!

The first "Ehyeh" comes from the hebrew verb Hayah, "to become”.

In other words = "I WILL BE".

The meaning suggests to us a continuity of existence or presence, within our existence.
In other words, He manifests as Himself from the days of our fathers. That is to say,
He is the same and not a different one, although our parents did not know Him as He
revealed Himself in the days of Moses. We can also say today that He did not make
Himself known - in the past- as we have known Him for some 2000 years.

IHVH it means like the Elohim of our fathers in verses: 13, 15, 16.

2
-En Defensa De LA VERDAD-

The same Elohim who made the promises of grace over the descendants of Abraham is
the Elohim who is and still beeing.

The statement in v. 17 is more than a reaffirmation of the promise made to Abraham.

Here the last Ehyeh is in the imperfect state and in the 1st person singular, and it
means: "I will be being".
Note:
In Christian Bible editions they have mistranslated the Hebrew text “Ehyeh” with “I
AM”. But these evidences are better explained in another PDF that is also available in
audio in our Youtube channel under the title "ANI OMED" (I will be with you).

These words are related to the causative form of the verb HAVAH, and this implies
that He becomes what He needs to be for His people. As a father willing to do
whatever it takes for the welfare of his children.

This name specifies a proximity, a presence. IHVH is present, accessible, close to those
who cry out to Him for deliverance as in Psalm 107:13, forgiveness in Psalm
25:11 and guidance in Psalm 31:3.

From here come the four consonants, which according to the word that Elohim gave us
through Moshe, is the way through which we have to know Elohim throughout the
generations. He also said:

Exodus 3:15 "Thus shalt thou speak unto the Yisraelites: ‫ יהוה‬The Elohim of
their fathers, the Elohim of Avraham, the Elohim of Yitsjaq, and the Elohim of
Yaaqov, hath sent me unto you, This will be my name forever,
this is my appellative for all eternity.
The Most High has left us an "appellative" to remind us forever of who He is. He did
NOT leave us a simple name, but an appellative to remind us that beside us is the
same Elohim who was with our fathers.

It is here we were left the acrostic ‫ = יהוה‬IHVH = four Hebrew consonants =

Iod Hey Vav Hei, composition also called tetragramaton, which according to the Greek
definition is known as "the name of four letters".

In the context of chapter 3 of the book of Exodus we can see the Elohim of Abraham,
Yitzaak and Ya'akov saying the following words: "By my name of - IHVH - I did not
make myself known to them". You have a little hollow ring if the name of IHVH is
understood only as an appellative, A SIMPLE NAME.

3
-En Defensa De LA VERDAD-
The reason for this is that Moses asks in Exodus 3:13: "What is Your name?"
(Mah-SHEMO, in Hebrew).
The reason for this question is not so much what Elohim's personal name is because
the Hebrew meaning of the term "name" points to more than just naming a name. The
name of a person is a description of the character, the identity of the person that is
revealed to us through a name.

When the Hebrew word "ma" is associated with the word "shem = name", in a
question, the interest behind the question is to find the expression that hides deep
within, behind the simple name.
In all cases where "mah" is used with a personal association a deeper investigation is
suggested, refering to quality or character.

Let's look a text where Elohim's character is evidenced rather than His name. Let's see
how we prove that the name of IHVH picks up aspects of Elohim's character.

Exodus 14:4 I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and he will persecute you; but I
will manifest my majesty through Pharaoh and all his army, and the

Egyptians shall know that I am IHVH (‫)יהוה‬. So they did.

It is said, "and the Egyptians shall know that I am IHVH (‫)יהוה‬.

It is unlikely that the intent of this statement is that He meant that the Egyptians will
know whic the Name of the Elohim of the Hebrews is, when only the Hebrews
themselves knew Him. What He manifested before the eyes of the Egyptians was a
whole display of power through which He made Himself known as the Elohim of the
Hebrews.

In light of these observations, the use of the concepts of Elohim's name in the early
narratives of the book of Exodus is much broader than simply the name by which the
Elohim of the Hebrew people was known.

The Name itself has a strong component of divine self-revelation within it.

Now, you have to know that these four letters " IHVH (‫ " )יהוה‬are the addition of all

times: Future, Past and Present – we have to know that the present tense is not used
in the Hebrew language.

By culture and by faith, the Hebrews go towards the future from the back while with
the forehead we look at the past, thus remembering that even the Present IHVH has
been with us.

We can see the three times in the acrostic IHVH= (‫)יהוה‬

‫ = י‬Iod = ihíeh = who will be = in the future /PREFIX Yeh(Ieh)

4
-En Defensa De LA VERDAD-

‫ = ה‬Hei = hayáh = who was =in the past /SUFFIX Yah (Iah)
‫ = ו‬Vav = ve=and
‫ = ה‬Hei = hové = who is = in the present
The way to vocalize the four consecutive consonants is Ye Haya Ve Hove.

The first two consonants of Tetragramaton, that is to say: Yud and Hey (‫ יה‬- YH or IH),
are born from the termination of "ehYEH" - I will be
These 2 letters have the same pronunciation that they have in their origin: this is
"Ehyeh", which abbreviated is "YEH".

This is also the origin of all prefixes of Biblical names beginning with "Yeh" or "Yeho"
and this is strong evidence that the theophoric Biblical names cannot begin with the
suffix "Yah" or "Yahu".

Let's look at some examples of Hebrew names:

1. - Yehoshafát (Josaphat) which means "Yehováh has judged" or "judged of

Yehováh".

2. - Yehoram (Jorán), which means "Yehováh is exalted".

3. - Yehoshua (Joshua), which means "Yehovah is the one who saves.

The last 2 letters of Tetragramaton derive from the verb "haYAH".

Another detail to highlight is the fact that the root "YAH" in Hebrew names is always a
suffix, never a prefix. That is, it is always at the end of the name, never at the
beginning.

Some examples are:

1. - Yeshayahu (Isaiah) = Yesha-YAHU = Yehovah saved or the salvation is from ‫יה‬

2. - Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) = Yireme-YAHU = Yehovah will rise.

3. - Eliyahu (Elijah) = Eli-YAHU = Yehovah is Elohim

You have to understand how Hebrew names are formed!!

It is pure grammatical logic, you can go to Hebrew sources of knowledge of the

language and verify that it is so, you must not believe me. It's not a matter of
interpretation, it's how one's own Hebrew language works.

Just stop trusting the words of these preachers of messianic, who teach invented
names, impossible for the Hebrew grammar.

That's the way things are, that's how lenguage Hebrew works:
At the beginning of a Hebrew name there may be "YEH", abbreviation of the word IHYEH, as in
the Word Yerushalayim.

5
-En Defensa De LA VERDAD-
At the end of a Hebrew name there may be "YAH", abbreviation of the word
HAYAH: as in "halleluyah".

WHAT IS THE ORIGIN AND THE MEANING OF THIS VERY WELL KNOWN WORD?

“Aleluya” is a purely Hebrew word, but it is found in almost every language. The first
part of the word, "hallel," means: "praise, celebrate, or glorify." The last part,
"YAH," is a suffix and a part of the name of the one who is praised.

In Hebrew there is no possibility of a name beginning with the letters "yah". There are
no names that START with Yah. Names begin with Yeh, and if so, they end in Yah,
never the other way around, like: Jeremiah (YermiYah), Zephaniah (ZephanYah),
Nehemiah (NehemYah); Eliiah (Eli-Yah); Obadyah (Obadiah), Zekaryah
(ZecharYah), etc.

Therefore:
The final "YEH" of EHYEH and the final "YAH" of the verb HAYAH have been taken to
form the appellative YEH-YAH, which in Hebrew custom remains as YEH-VÁH, for better
pronunciation.
This form appears 5,658 times in the BHS (Stuttgartensia Hebraic Bible).

Thus, from these two verbs comes the form containing the "jolam", that is with the
pronunciation of the vowel "o" => "YeH-o-VáH", in this there is no secret or mystery.

Note: The Hebraic Bible Stuttgartensia (in Latin, meaning "Hebrew Bible of
Stuttgart"), abbreviated at the request of the publishers themselves as "BHS", is the
title of an edition of the Bible in Hebrew language published by the German Bible
Society, the Deutsche Bibelgesellschaft, in Stuttgart (Germany). Edition published in
1977 (in a single volume) using as textual basis the edition of the Leningrad Codex.

Those who want to make us forget the name of the Elohim of the Hebrews had much
success in his mission to bring an extermination to the people of Elohim, UNTIL NOW.

Today the Sun of Justice shines seven times brighter.

Isaiah 30:26 And the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the
light of the sun shall be seven times greater, as the light of seven days, on the
day that IHVH will put a bandage on the fracture of his people and heals the
wound that he has caused.

If we look at past history, we can see that the Elohim of Israel protected His own
name, so that it would not be mentioned and mixed with the idolatrous way of life of
His people. Thus, when the nations saw the misconduct of His people, they would not
think that this way of living is what Elohim IHVH wants, so that they would not think
that Elohim had taught them to live like this.
Ezekiel 36:21 I was grieved to see my holy name profaned by the house of
Yisrael in the nations where they went.

6
-En Defensa De LA VERDAD-
Today we live days in which He has forgiven the old transgressions of His people. For
the glory of His own Name, our Elohim, is restoring the identity of the Hebrew nation,
as well as its pillars of worship, including His Name.

Ezekiel 39:7-8 I will make my holy name known in the midst of my people
Yisrael, and never again will I allow my holy name to be profaned. And the
nations shall know that I am IHVH, the Holy One of Yisrael.
v.8 It comes and it will be fulfilled, says Adonay IHVH. This is the day I've
been talking about.

The famous Sephardic Talmudist Maimonides (Rambam for others) came to this
conclusion:
“There is no mystical mystery, for the name of Elohim is read without difficulty because
it is pronounced as it is written, or according to its letters, I-H-V-H = IEH-O-VAH”
"5815".

Isaiah 52:6 "My people shall know my name..."

And this name is: “Yeshúa”

Baruch haShem Yeshua Elohe YisraEL - blessed be the name of Yeshúa, Elohim of
Israel!

Jude 3 (DHH 1996) Dear Brothers, I have felt great desire to write to you
about the salvation that you and I have; but now I find myself in the need to
do so to beg them to fight for the faith that was once given to the holy people.

I want Yeshua Ha Mashiah our Elohim and Redeemer to guide them to grow in all
understanding.
