Committee: United Nations Environment Programme

Agenda: Reviewing the Paris agreement on the basis of the Developments of Renewable Energy Technology in
Response to Climate Change

Country: Republic of Equatorial Guinea

The United Nations Environment Programme is the branch of UN that leads world environment authority, promotes
environmental agendas and promotes the rational implementation of the environmental dimensions of development
in a sustainable way within the United Nations system and somewhat an authoritative patron for implementation of
the ideas and goals. Founded and supported by Maurice robust, its initial director, as a results of the United Nations
Conference on the Human atmosphere (Stockholm Conference) in June 1972 and has overall responsibility for
environmental issues among United Nations agencies; but, international talks on specific problems, like addressing
global climate change or combating geological processes like desertification, are overseen by different international
organization organizations, just like the Bonn-based Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on
global climate change and also the United Nations Convention to Combat desertification in places. UNEP's activities
cowl a good vary of problems relating to the atmosphere, marine and terrestrial ecosystems, environmental
governance and inexperienced economy.

The Paris Agreement central aim is to strengthen the worldwide response to the threat of global climate change by
keeping a worldwide temperature rise this century well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels and to
pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase even more to 1.5 degrees Celsius. The Paris Agreement desires all
involved parties to put forward their best performances through nationwide determined contributions (NDCs) and
to strengthen these efforts within the forthcoming years ahead. This includes necessities that each Parties report
often on their emissions and on their implementation efforts. The Paris Agreement entered into force on 4 November
2016, thirty days after the date on which a minimum of 55 Parties to the Convention accounting in total for at least
an estimated 55 % of the total global greenhouse gas emissions have deposited their instruments of ratification,
acceptance, approval or accession with the Depository. Equatorial Guinea is taking several initiatives to deal with
global climate change within the country. This country has 57.1% renewable energy from various sources. The
Ministry of Fisheries and Environment and the Ministry of Mines, Industry and Energy are working together on a
sustainable energy project that focuses on solar, wind and marine energy. This project is being enforced as a result
of the national climate change adaptation arrangement. Also, the climate change regulatory law in Equatorial Guinea
has established the National Fund for Climate Change (FONAMA), which takes initiatives to develop the aspects
of the environment, such as conserving biodiversity and
and protecting almost extinct species. Engonga sees the recently approved aid to the Fund for climate change in
Africa (FCCA) as a positive milestone for the African continent, which has not received significant financial aid
to combat climate change and its effects. So for the betterment of the environment some steps can be followed:

1. Infrastructure Upgrade of the buildings and structures which better suit the environment
2. Efficiency in handling the resources and using less destructive resource materials in works that might
lead to hamper.
3. Less consumption of products can lead to less emission of toxic fumes
4. Reducing emissions and stabilizing the levels of heat-trapping greenhouse gases in the atmosphere
5. Forest Restoration may prove vital in saving the climate.
