DAILY LESSON PLAN (DLP)

School: Grade Level: Grade 7
Teacher: Learning Area: Science
Time & Date: Quarter: First
TEACHING SCHEDULE
(Day, Time & Section)
I. CONTENT ACIDS AND BASES
II. OBJECTIVES
The learners demonstrate an understanding of:
A. Content Standard
the common properties of acidic and basic mixtures.
The learners shall be able to:
properly interpret product labels of acidic and basic mixture,
B. Performance Standard
and practice safe ways of handling acids and bases using
protective clothing and safety gear.
The learner:
C. Learning
[S7MT-Ii-6] investigate properties of acidic and basic
Competency/Code
mixtures using natural indicators.
Learning Objective/s: At the end of the activity the students will be able to:
Cognitive: find out the pH of some household materials, body fluids;
Psychomotor: give the importance of neutralization; and
Affective: enhance the value of carefulness in dealing with indicators.
III.LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide page
2. Learners’ Guide page
B. Ancillary References
(If any/ available)
3. Textbook page
4. Additional Material
from Learning
Resource (LR) Portal
C. Instructional Materials
(Audio/ Visual Materials)
IV. PROCEDURE
a. REVIEW/ ELICIT The students will recall on the acidity and basicity of different water
sources.
b. MOTIVATION/ The teacher will show a rusting nail.
ENGAGE The teacher will ask, “What could probably cause the rusting of this
iron?”

c. PRESENTATION/ The teacher will have Scavenger Hunt Activity. The students will be
EXPLORE group into 3. Each team will write the importance of pH in human
body, food processing, soil and personal care products.

They will then search the pH of these on the internet and how does this
affect their daily living.

For example:

At pH 12, hair already dissolves, that is why hair removers usually

have pH of11.5 to12. Most shampoos are within the pH range of 4 to 6.
This is because the pH of the product must be compatible with that of the
hair, which is in the range pH 4 to 5. Hair is least swollen and is strongest
at this pH range. But very often, using shampoo leaves the hair basic. So,
in order to avoid eye irritation and stinging, shampoos for infants and
children have a pH similar to that of tears (pH 7.4).

d. Discussion / EXPLAIN The teacher will ask, “What will happen if an acid and a base
combine?”

Look back at the pH color chart of Activity 2. You will find a pH value
that is not acidic or basic. Mixtures that are not acidic or basic are called
neutral. When an acid mixes with a base, water and salt are produced.
Such a process is called neutralization.

If a basic mixture is added to an acidic mixture, the resulting mixture

will no longer have the properties of the acidic mixture. In the same way, if
enough acidic mixture is added to a basic mixture, the properties of the basic
mixture are changed. This is because the acid and the base in each of the
mixtures neutralize each other to produce a mixture with a different set of
properties.
e. Finding of Practical What is the importance of knowing the pH of materials?
Application of concept Neutralization? What are the uses of neutralization in everyday life?
and skill in daily living
ELABORATE
f. Making Generalization Based on what you have learned, how should we be able to take
care of ourselves? How does neutralization work?

g. EVALUATE The teacher will give a short quiz.

In your own understanding, what’s the importance of neutralization?
