Inquiry (5E) Lesson Plan Template

Teachers: Subject:
Audrey Ingersoll What factors influence a student in school?
Common Core State Standards:
 ISTE-S:
-knowledge constructor
-innovative designer
 ISTE-T:
-leader
-citizen
-collaborator
-designer
-facilitator
Objective (Explicit):
 Be able to demonstrate an understanding of how your groups assigned sub topic (meditation, note-taking
strategies, healthy eating, time management, or sleep) would effect/improve a student in school through the
use of a storm board.
Evidence of Mastery (Measurable):
 Include a copy of the lesson assessment.
 Provide exemplar student responses with the level of detail you expect to see.
 Assign value to each portion of the response.
Each student must post three relevant pieces of information on their assigned subtopic to their groups storm board.
If a picture is contributed, there must be a caption of why the picture relates to the topic.

Sub-objectives, SWBAT (Sequenced from basic to complex):

 How will you review past learning and make connections to previous lessons?
 What skills and content are needed to ultimately master this lesson objective?
 How is this objective relevant to students, their lives, and/or the real world?
Students will bring in their homework from earlier in the week which includes a list that they came up with of
difficulties/ things that they wish they knew prior to being in high school. They may also ask their parents to
contribute to their lists but not their friends.
Key vocabulary: Materials: laptops, lists from prior homework, storm
-meditation board software.
-time management
-sleep
-healthy eating
-note-taking strategies
Engage
 How will you activate student interest?
 How will you hook student attention?
 What questions will you pose, based on your objective, that students will seek to answer in Explore?
Teacher Will: Student Will:
-break students into groups of 4-5 students -brainstorm possible answers to the question
-assign each group a sub topic -compare/ contrast which bullets on their list they had
-ask students the question “how does your subtopic the same and different to their teammates.
contribute to the overall performance of a student?” -pick out as a group which bullet points would be the
-have students compare what they wrote on their lists best sub categories to look into regarding their assigned
from earlier in the week subtopic.

Explore
 How will model your performance expectations? Remember, you are not modeling what you want students to discover but
need to model expected behavior or required procedures.
 How will students take the lead and actively use materials to discover information that will help them answer the question
posed in Engage?
 What questions or prompts will you be prepared to use with students while they are “exploring”?

1
Teacher Will: Student Will:
-demonstrate to students how to use storm board. -in each group students will create their storm board
-tell students to use their laptops to research their sub accounts so they are all contributing to the same board.
topic and how their subcategory relate to student -research on their laptops while contributing to their
performance. storm board.
Co-Teaching Strategy
 What co-teaching approach will you use to maximize student achievement?
If I had a co-teacher I would have them help half of the class with questions on the assignment or on how to set up their storm
board accounts while I helped the other half.
Differentiation Strategy
 What accommodations/modifications will you provide for specific students?
 How will you anticipate students that need an additional challenge?
If a student typically takes longer for researching due to an iep or 504 then they will only have to find two pieces of supporting evidence.
Explain
 How will all students have an opportunity to share what they discovered?
 How will you connect student discoveries to correct content terms/explanations?
 How will all students articulate/demonstrate a clear and correct understanding of the sub-objectives by answering the
question from Engage before moving on?
Teacher Will: Student Will:
-will have students choose on a first come first serve -present their storm boards to the class
basis which day they want to present their storm board - answer any questions their peers have regarding their
to the class. topic.
-have each group not presenting made an additional
point or give an alternate idea of how the presentation
related to student achievement
Co-Teaching Strategy
 What co-teaching approach will you use to maximize student achievement?

Differentiation Strategy
 What accommodations/modifications will you provide for specific students?
 How will you anticipate students that need an additional challenge?
No differentiation everyone is expected to answer their peers questions and present what they found to the class.
Elaborate
 How will students take the learning from Explore and Explain and apply it to a new circumstance or explore a particular
aspect of this learning at a deep level?
 How will students use higher order thinking at this stage? (e.g. A common practice in this section is to pose a “what If
question”)
 How will all students articulate how their understanding has changed or been solidified?
Teacher Will: Student Will:
-continue to teach lessons more in depth on each of the -engage and take notes on future lessons covering
subtopics while conducting related hands on activities each of the sub categories in preparation for a future
research paper.
Co-Teaching Strategy
 What co-teaching approach will you use to maximize student achievement?

Differentiation Strategy
 What accommodations/modifications will you provide for specific students?
 How will you anticipate students that need an additional challenge?
No modifications considering participation is expected from everyone and notes are taken differently depending on the student.
Evaluate
 How will all students demonstrate mastery of the lesson objective (though perhaps not mastery of the Elaborate content)?
 How will students have an opportunity to summarize the big concepts they learned (separate from the assessment)?
Teacher Will: Student Will:
-teachers will be able to determine mastery based on -answer peers questions to demonstrate further
whether or not the students can answer their peers mastery.
questions after their presentation.
-Also based on if they contributed at least 3 facts in their
storm board each.
