Purpose :
·0 The drum is a pressure vessel.it provides the necessary space for the seperation
of water from the mixture of water and steam.
Specification:
Description: the drum is made up of two halves of carbon steel plates having
thickness 133mm.
The top half and bottom halfplates are heated in a plate heatingat a very high
temperatureand are pressed to form a semi-cylinderical shape.the top and bottom
semi cylinder with hemispherical dished ends are fusion welded to form the boiler
drum.
Functions:
·3 Seperation of water from steam water mixture .
Various Parts:

*It feeds water to the drum.Water having the economiser
Baffle Plate
AUXILIARY CONNECTION:
Blowdown Line:
Two blowdown arrangements are provided in the drum.
·8 Emergency blow down:It is use to normalise the high water level in the drum.
·9 It used for introducing chemicals to maintain the hardness and the pH value of
the feed water in the drum.
·10 chemicals are fed in the drum by a small high pressurepump and is fed on
demand by monitoring the composition of the boiler water.
Safety valves:
·11 To relieve the excess pressure over and above the permissible working
pressure in the boiler drum.
Air Vents:
·12 Two no.s of air vents are provided on the drum to evacuate air from the drum
during startup and draining of the boiler.
·13 one air vent is mounted on left side and other on the right side od the drum.
·14 Water level gauges use the principal of a liquid seeking a level between two
concen tric vessels.
·15 It provides visual observation and monitering of the water levelin the steam
drum.
Pressure Gauge
A pressure gauge (BOURDEN GAUGE) with scale showing the full range is mounted on
the boiler drum.
