Introduction (time: 2 )

Hook/Attention Grabber:
“1,2,3, eyes on me”

Transitioning from Hook to Body:


Ask students to move to the carpet, and share with someone close to them something that
they know about trees. Pull popsicle sticks to get a few to share with the class.

Body (time: 20-25 minutes )

Learning Activity #1-5 minutes:


Watch Sid the Science Kid video
Ask students to share with someone close to them something new that they learned about
trees. Pull popsicle sticks to get a few to share.

Learning Activity #2- 15-20 minutes:


Students will go back to their tables and work with their shoulder partners to create two
different groups to put their tree pictures in. They will have to cut and paste their tree pictures
onto two different colors of paper.
Ask students to repeat instructions back to me
Closure (time: 10 )

Feedback From Students on Learning:


Ask students to share with the other group at their table what they chose as their criteria for
their trees. Call on a few using popsicle sticks to share their learning. If appropriate, introduce
them to the words coniferous and deciduous.
Transition To Next Lesson(s):
Students will tidy their work spaces, and move to the carpet for sharing time.
