“Good morning, class.” “Good morning, Sir.”

All right I guess we are all set.

Now, let’s have an activity or game

before the discussing of our topic
today.
I have here with me seven pieces of
paper with questions or statements on
it. All you need to do is pick one and
then read the question or statement
that you have picked and then you
need to answer the question or
elaborate the statement for only 2
minutes.

Did you get it? Yes Sir.

Do you have any questions? None Sir.

Who wants to go first? Me Sir.

Okay Raul please come in front and
pick one.

Kindly read the statement or question (The student reads the question.)
before the class that is written in paper.

Okay, you have 2 minutes to answer (The student answers the question.)
the question. Your time starts now.

Very good! You may now take your Thank you sir.
seat.

B. Interaction

Our topic for today class is all about

transitional devices or words.

What is a transitional devices or words? These are phrases or words used to

connect one idea to another, or from
Excellent! one sentence or paragraph to
another.

Any other answer? Me sir.

Yes Grace. Sir, transition words also show

relationship within a paragraph (or
within a sentence) between the main
idea and the supporting ideas.

Very well said. Thank you Grace.

In addition to your answers, transition

devices acts as bridges between and
among sentences and paragraphs.

Here are some of the categories and

examples of the transitional devices
that we can use to improve our writing
and speaking skills.
First, To Add: and, again, and then,
besides, equally important, finally,
further, furthermore, next, lastly,
moreover, in addition, first (second,
etc.)

Example: I ate tapsilog this morning

and then I took a bath before going to
school.

Can anyone give another example (Students raised their hands)

using the transition word “finally”?

Yes, Raquel. (Student give her example)

Very good. Thank you.

Second type of transitional devices is

used to compare: whereas, but, yet,
on the other hand, however,
nevertheless, on the contrary,
compared to, meanwhile, etc.

Example: I was working at a restaurant,

meanwhile my wife was going to
university.

Can anyone give another example (Students raised their hands)

using the transition word ‘compared
to’?

Yes Regie. (Student give his answer)

The third type of transitional devices is

used to show sequence: first, second,
third, and so forth, next, then,
following, after, afterward, thus, and
then, soon.

Example: After the service Alex was

unusually silent.
Diane, can you give a sentence using Yes Sir. (Student give her answer)
the transitional word ‘next’?

Very good, Diane.

C. Integration: Independent Practice

in DMMMSU-SLUC with the use 10 transitional devices that we have discussed in
