Teacher:Jeania Wells Unit Title:STEM

Grade Level:Kindergarten Lesson Title:Attributes and Properties

Objectives (Write 2-5 objectives stating expected learner outcomes.): Students should
be able to define attribute and property. Students will be able to identify types of
attributes and properties. Students will be able to classify items based on attributes.
Students will use adjectives when classifying items into groups based on attributes.

Materials/Resources Needed:Brown paper bag,eraser,sandpaper,hair

tie,block,pencil,penny,rock,spoon,pipe cleaner,cotton ball

Anticipatory Set (List specific statements or activities you will use to focus students on
the lesson for the day.):Today we are going to use our "Feely bag" to help us describe
what might be inside with attributes.

Objective/Purpose (For the student's benefit, explain what students will be able to do
by the end of the lesson and why these objectives are important to
accomplish.):Students will be able to tell what item was in bag based of the attributes
the student listed to identify it with. Students will be able to recognize shape, size,
texture, weight/capacity, and color help to give items specific characteristics.

Input (What information is essential for the student to know before

beginning and how will this skill be communicated to students?):Students should be able
to classify items based on common properties. "What did you use to find attributes?"
Asking questions the students should be able to answer correctly and categorize the
items in the bag appropriately. "This item is flexible it should go..." is an example.

Model (If you will be demonstrating the skill or competence, how will this be
done?):Teacher will reach in bag and grab an item but not look at it. Teacher will
describe to class the texture, weight, shape, and size. Together the class will help
determine what the item might be. Help students compare and contrast items.

Check for Understanding (Identify strategies to be used to determine if students have

learned the objectives.):Have students explain types of attributes and make a list
together. Explain that although color is an attribute you do not have to use it in this
situation.

Guided Practice (List activities which will be used to guide student practice and provide a
time frame for completing this practice.):Science journal entry. Classifying the objects
based on their attributes.
Closure (What method of review and evaluation will be used to complete the lesson?):
Teacher will ask class, "So what did you use to find the attributes of the items in the
bag?" "What words can be used to describe the properties of the items?" "What things
do some of the items have in common?"

Independent Practice (List homework/seatwork assignment to be given to students to

ensure they have mastered the skill without teacher guidance.):Go home and look around
at your toys what attributes might you use to describe them and help group them
together.
