ART 2 SYLLABUS 2018-2019

Art 2 Course Description:


Art 2 is a course designed for students with a foundation in the Elements of Art
with an emphasis on the comprehension of composition through the study of the
Principles of Design: Unity, Pattern, Proportion, Balance, Contrast, Emphasis,
Movement and Rhythm. This course will build on basic knowledge of techniques and
will continue to build these skills and sense of aesthetics using a variety of both 2D
and 3D media. State SOL’s mandate that students expand upon the use of their
sketchbooks and build upon their Art I Portfolio (a minimum of 10 quality works of
art).

HARDBOUND SKETCHBOOK The Art department has purchased the basic


required sketchbook for this class at a discounted
price. Students are required to purchase this
from the art department for $10, for personal
use throughout the year in class and at home.
Students will purchase these sketchbooks at the
beginning of the year.

Supply Sets Available for Purchase

Students are required to complete art assignments outside of class and having
personal art supplies allows students to finish their visual journals at home. Due
to a large amount of unreturned art supplies last year, the art department will no
longer allow students to check out premium art materials. Order forms will be
available the first week of school.

Helpful tips when purchasing supplies:


All supplies can be purchased at Michaels, Wal-Mart, A.C. Moore, and Office Supply Stores.
Amazon is very convenient and often very economical. It may be more cost effective to
purchase a set of brushes, or a drawing pencil set that includes a kneaded eraser…

These supplies do not have to be purchased brand new and may be carried over from previous
art classes.
