Lesson Plan in Grade 8 Science

Date: February _____, 2019

I. Objectives:
A. Determine the process of water cycle.
B. Arrange the different stages of water cycle accordingly.
C. Be aware of the importance of the different processes involve in the water cycle.

II. Subject Matter:

A. Topic: Water Cycle
B. Reference: Grade 8 Science
C. Materials: whiteboard marker, chalk, manila paper

III. Lesson Proper:

A. Activity
GROUP ME IN!

Students will be group into 5 groups. Each will be given a set of words. The students
will group the words accordingly. They will look for its relation to each other. After grouping it
they will stick it into a manila paper and present it in front of the class.

Evaporation – water to gas

Condensation – gas to water
Precipitation – rain, snow, hail
Transpiration – leaf/leaves

B. Analysis

Teacher’s Task Student’s Task

Okay so first let’s have a short recall. Again what The oxygen-carbon dioxide cycle.
is the last cycle that we discussed?

What processes are involved in that cycle? The photosynthesis and respiration.

Where does photosynthesis happens? It happens on plants wherein plants produce food
and oxygen.
How about respiration? Respiration occurs when humans and animals
breathes in oxygen and breathes out carbon
dioxide.
Okay, that is correct. So for our next topic we will
be discussing the Water Cycle.

Based from our activity, what can you infer? There are different processes that are involves in
the next cycle.

So that is correct. The words that you grouped are

the different processes that happen in the Water
Cycle.

Do you think, where do water cycles occur or In water.

happen?

Where can we find water? In the different bodies of water such as seas,
oceans, rivers, lakes, and many more.

That is correct. So we can also include the ice

glaciers as well.

Water circulates in the environment. The process

by which water moves from one place to another
is called Water Cycle or Hydrological Cycle.
Water is relatively unchanging. The Earth’s
surface is 75% water and only 25% land. 97% of
the water is salt water leaving only 3% of fresh
water. Two thirds of fresh water is frozen in snow
and ice and leaves 1% as liquid. Most of our fresh
water is stored underground in aquifers.

Groundwater is the water stored under the surface

of the earth. Water like rocks is not static, it is
constantly moving around the hydrosphere, the
layer of earth where water is present. It moves
around by changing into different processes that
make up the water cycle.

The cycling process involves evaporation,

condensation, transpiration and precipitation.
Evaporation – the process by which water is
converted to its gaseous state know as water
vapor. When the sun heats up the earth, water
evaporates form oceans, seas, rivers, lakes and
lands. The escape of water through the leaf pore
that adds to the water vapor in the atmosphere is
called Transpiration.
Condensation – is the process by which the water
vapor is changed back into liquid. Condensation
is important because it is responsible in cloud
formation. Without clouds, we would not get to
the next phase. Clouds form when water vapor
condenses around small particles.
Precipitation – All liquid or solid water particles
that fall from clouds and reach the ground. It
occurs in the form of rain or snow.

The three processes such as evaporation,

condensation and precipitation involves the water
cycle.

As you can see on the picture, the water from the

ocean was warmed by the sun which then
evaporated. You can also notice that there is also
transpiration that happens on plants. It also adds
into the water vapor that was formed. The water
vapor that was formed will then condense to form
cloud then afterwards precipitate in the form of
rain.

Again, what are the processes involved in the Evaporation, Condensation, Transpiration and
Water Cycle? Precipitation

In what process do water vapor is formed? Evaporation

What is formed in precipitation? It can be rain, snow or even hail. The water pours
down again.

What do you call the process which is responsible It is called Condensation.

for cloud formation?

Water is one of the most important resources that

we have. Without water, everything will be
useless. The water cycle is a continuous process
which will remain as the time goes by. And if one
process wasn’t able to be occur then probably
there is a problem that will surely affect our
environment. It may be also a sign that our Earth
is slowly changing and slowly dying.

C. Abstraction
The Water Cycle

As you can see on the picture, the water from the ocean was warmed by the sun which
then evaporated. You can also notice that there is also transpiration that happens on plants. It
also adds into the water vapor that was formed. The water vapor that was formed will then
condense to form cloud then afterwards precipitate in the form of rain.

Water is one of the most important resources that we have. Without water, everything
will be useless. The water cycle is a continuous process which will remain as the time goes
by. And if one process wasn’t able to be occur then probably there is a problem that will
surely affect our environment. It may be also a sign that our Earth is slowly changing and
slowly dying.

D. Application

1. Make a diagram about the water cycle.

2. In 3-5 sentences answer the question, “Why is water important to us?
E. Assignment

Make an advance reading of the different ecosystem cycles. pp.287
