Chapter 3

Design of the study

Chapter 3 contain 5 parts; [1] Research Design, [2] Subjects of the respomdents, [3]
Research instruments, [4] Procedure, and [5] Statistical tools and data analysis.

Methodology
This study used the descriptive research. It attempted to ascertain the level of
effectiveness in oral and written communication among the GGCS high school students. The
researcher distributed a 20-item survey for the students to answer within 10-15 minutes.

Respondents
The respondents of this study were 98 high school students. The respondents were
classified in 2 classes, level and gender. Table 1 shows the profile of the respondents

Procedure
This study was designed to identify the effectiveness of the GGCS high school students
in using English language as their communicative language. The descriptive method of research
was employed in this study.

When this study was made, the researcher gave a 20-item survey for the respondents
to answer. Before it were distributed, the researcher gave an approval letter to the head office
for the approval of distributing of their survey. It was validated by the English teacher or
proctor before it was distributed.
The gathered data were, scored, encoded, and subjected to statistician analysis suing
the statistical package.
Statistical Data Analysis

For this investigation, both descriptive and infernal statistics were utilized. The tools
used were, mean, frequency, and percentage. They were used for following purposes;

MEAN – used to determine the level of effectiveness of the GGCS high school students.

FREQUENCY – used to determine how many respondents who took the survey.

PERCENTAGE – used to determine the specific computation of the effectiveness among the
GGCS high school students.
