Introductory information
Welcome your students with an introductory
message and video to foster familiarity and
provide students with an overview of the unit
and content.
Include information about teaching staff
to encourage rapport and create a welcoming
environment. Include an (appropriate) photograph,
contact details and contact times, preferred means
of communication, and some information about
your teaching approach.
Provide your expectations of student
engagement to establish a clear sense of required
participation and contributions.
Provide a clear statement of learning outcomes
to give students a benchmark for knowledge and
skills development.
Provide an overview of key dates, including all
assessment task due dates to facilitate time
management, reduce potential confusion, and
indicate to students that the unit is current and
maintained.
Optimising digital delivery
Create and articulate a clear, consistent,
purposeful and signposted learning pathway
to increase a sense of orientation within the unit
and reduce confusion.
Integrate different modes of information
including, for instance, text, video, audio and
images, to cater to a variety of learning styles,
and improve information retention.
Integrate a variety of targeted learning
activities throughout the unit to improve
engagement and allow for students to monitor
their learning.
Provide a clear learning context for all
learning objects to help clarify the purpose of
unit content and enhance student motivation.
Meet accessibility requirements to enable a
diverse cohort to access the unit material is
current and maintained.
Integrating assessment tasks
Explain how each assessment task aligns to
the relevant learning outcomes to help clarify
the rationale for each assessed task in the unit.
Provide all necessary supporting
documentation for each assessment task
such as assignment instructions, rubrics,
referencing guidelines and avenues for further
support, for instance, forums.
Interpersonal communication
Integrate a variety of synchronous and
asynchronous avenues for student-lecturer
and peer-peer communication including, for
example, chat, video conferencing, blogs, wikis
and forums. This increases students’ sense of
belonging and motivation, and fosters a well
rounded learning experience.
Set up dedicated forums including, for
instance, general discussion forums, social
forums, and assignment specific forums. This
assists in channelling questions to a specific
and communally accessible location, and can
reduce the volume of student emails received
by teaching staff.
Provide avenues for student feedback
relating to the unit and the digital learning
experience to increase student integration
and prompt students to reflect upon the learning
experience. This will also allow you to further
enhance the digital learning process by
identifying and addressing any issues.
Support Resources
Include resources to support learning
and assessment including, for instance, links to
lecture recordings, academic integrity
information, and if relevant, Turnitin.
Provide a range of support options for
students including library resources, language
support, and diversity and inclusion services.
Provide avenues for technical support
including moodle and any technical resources
utilised within the unit.
