OPTIONS
(1)
Input Transformer required; usually designed and supplied by CONVERTEAM, but not within MV7000 scope.
(2)
AFE configuration may require AFE Input filter not included in standard MV7000 scope. AFE is available with transformer or
without transformer (Common Mode Filter required).
(3)
Output dV/dt filter is included in standard MV7000 scope.
Voltage, power and current ratings refer to MV7000 output for motor power factor of 0.8 to 1, under
standard conditions (network impedance and variations, switching frequency, cooling conditions, cable
length and type, etc.). They are given for reference only. Project specific power and current ratings are
provided by CONVERTEAM according to actual project conditions.

Note: The MV76xx dV/dt filter cubicle is handled as a separate shipping unit.
• “Rectifier”, including the rectifier bridges, the precharge or precharge & premagnetization
circuit (corresponding transformer is located outside of the panel) according to the type of
front-end unit, and the main input terminals. AFE configurations do not feature a “Rectifier”
sub-unit, but instead, they are fitted with an inverter on network side.
• "DC Link", including the DC capacitor bank, DC voltage measurement and ground fault
detection system.
• “Inverter”, including the 3 inverter IGBT stacks and the clamp capacitors.
• "AC output", including the output current measurements, DC link grounding switch and the
chopper (optional IGBT stack). It normally includes output terminals, but these may also be
placed in the optional filter cabinet.
• “Control”, including controller rack , control devises and auxiliary devices.
• Cooling unit.

Figure 2-4 Power section overview (12 pulses input, with dV/dt filter option)
The MV7000 range is based on elementary modules (used in MV7306, MV7308). They can be
connected in series or parallel to achieve higher ratings.
MV7312 = 2x MV7306 in parallel.
MV7612 = 2 power stacks type 7306 in series.
This section mainly describes the elementary modules.
DFE precharge system includes current limiting resistors which are activated by contactors.
Precharge takes about 5 s.
In case of AFE configuration, precharge is made of two steps:
• Charging DC capacitors through the same sequence as for DFE (5 s).
• Pulsing the AFE IGBT’s, thereby converting the DC link voltage into 3-phase AC voltage for
the premagnetization of the main transformer and phase synchro-check, during
approximately 60 seconds.
• DC capacitors bank.
• DC link voltage measurements.
• Capacitors discharge system.
• Ground fault detection system.

clamp capacitors
• four IGBT sets with gate drivers and gate driver supply (DC/DC converter).
• two 0V diodes.
Freewheeling diodes
Clamp Capacitors
They are self-healing, dry-type film capacitors. The clamp capacitors are located behind the inverter
stack.
Protection considerations
Both the inverter stack and the clamp capacitors are close coupled in order to minimize inductance
and to reduce voltage stress on the IGBTs. This construction also results in a minimal number of
parts, resulting in increased reliability.
The gate drivers are directly mounted on the IGBT stacks, keeping wiring very short, and thus
preventing electromagnetic pick-up. The gate drivers are controlled and monitored via optical fiber,
one fiber for IGBT gate command, and the second for IGBT status feedback.
The following IGBT protections are embedded on the gate drivers:
• IGBT overcurrent.
• IGBT overvoltage.
• short-circuit detection.
• gate driver supply monitoring.
• pulse duration monitoring.
Any IGBT failure is transmitted to the PEC controller through fiber-optic status feedback.
Grounding switch
WARNING
Before closing the grounding switch, wait at least 10 minutes after the drive has
stopped and the input circuit breaker has been opened, in order to discharge DC
capacitors. Closing the grounding switch earlier may result in damage of the
grounding switch, cables and capacitors.
