ABSTRACT

This descriptive study aimed to determine the financial

literacy of sole proprietorship business owners in Poblacion

Zone II, Estancia, Iloilo. The respondents of the study

were the one hundred twenty nine (129) sole proprietorship

business owners of Poblacion Zone II, Estancia, Iloilo who

were chosen through a random sampling. The researchers-made

questionnaire/checklist was used to gather data. The

gathered data were analyzed and interpreted using the

frequency, percentage, and mean as descriptive statistics

and t-test, one-way ANOVA for inferential statistics.

Findings revealed that the financial literacy of sole

proprietorship business owners in terms of record keeping,

budgeting, financing and saving when taken as an entire

group and when classified as to age, sex, educational

attainment and length of business operation found out that

age, below 30 years old and 30-45 years old were highly

literate in terms of record keeping, budgeting and saving

and literate on financing. Those 45 years old are highly

literate in terms of budgeting and saving and literate on

record keeping and financing. It was also found out that

male and female has the same level of financial literacy in

terms of record keeping, budgeting and saving which is

highly literate and literate on financing. When classified

as to educational attainment result revealed that

elementary, high school and college level has the same level

of financial literacy in terms of record keeping, budgeting

and saving which is highly literate and literate on

financing. And on length of business operation, 10 years and

below are highly literate in terms of record keeping,

budgeting and saving and literate on financing, those above

10 years are highly literate in terms of saving and literate

in terms of record keeping, budgeting and financing. There

was no significant difference on financial literacy of sole

proprietorship business owners in terms of record keeping,

budgeting, financing and saving when classified as to age,

sex, educational attainment and length of business operation

in terms of financing and saving.
