I aspire to become an English as a second language teacher in foreign countries.

Education

James Madison University/2021


I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies with a minor in Teacher
English as a Second Language and Elementary Education with humanities and
science/technology concentrations. In my spring semester of sophomore year, I studied
abroad in Italy through the Semester in Florence program. I am also a part of the Honors
College.

Experience

University Recreation Adventure Center


Adventure Service Specialist/ 2018-present
I serve customers by checking visitors into the center, renting out adventure equipment, and
helping participants plan adventures such as backpacking, camping, kayaking, mountain
biking, and more.
Trip Leader/ 2018-present
I lead participants on adventures such as backpacking, camping, kayaking, mountain biking,
and more. Within this role I received Leave No Trace training, a CPR/First Aid certificate, and
Wilderness First Aid certification.

Bundle of Joy Daycare Center


Classroom Assistant/ 2016-2017
I worked in classrooms with children ages 12 months to 5 years. I also helped close the
building by cleaning and locking up.

Awards and Acknowledgements


Presented at the JMU Global Conference
I was asked to present at this conference due to excellence shown in a research paper on
the Origins of the Mexican Revolution in a World History class.

Presented at the JMU General Education Conference


I was asked to present at this conference to due excellence shown in a presentation on
Female Genital Mutilation in a Communications class.

Presented at the JMU Education Research Showcase


My semester-long research project on “Universal Devices to Lower Anxiety in ESL classrooms”
from my Teaching English as a Second Language class was showcased.

Girl Scout Gold Award


I received my gold award for creating a tutoring program in a local elementary school to
help struggling second grade students in math and English.

Gold Level Presidential Service Award


I received a nationally-recognized award for completing over 250 hours of service within a
year.

Community Service

Mission Trips
I have served on week-long mission trips to Pennsylvania, Louisiana, South Carolina, Florida
and various regions of Virginia (6th grade to freshman year of college). Projects included
various construction experiences (building, painting, and flooring) and running a Vacation
Bible School program.
English Tutor
I tutor the six children who recently moved to the United States from Tanzania.
