Conception Vessel and Its Points

Huiyin (CV 1)
Location - on the perineum, midway between the anus and the scrotum in men, and the anus and the posterior
labial commissure in women.
Indications
1. Irregular menstruation, difficulty in urination, nocturnal emission, vaginal pain, pruritis vulva
2. Asphyxiation from drowning, unconsciousness, psychosis
Needling Method - puncture perpendicularly 0.5 - 1.0 cun. The point is contraindicated in pregnancy.
Qugu (CV 2)
Location - on the anterior midline, 5 cun below the umbilicus, in the depression on the midpoint of the upper
border of the pubis symphysis.
Indications
1. Difficulty in urination, enuresis, irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, morbid leucorrhea, nocturnal
emissions, impotence and eczema of the scrotum.
Needling Method - puncture perpendicularly 0.5 - 1.0 cun. The point is contraindicated in pregnancy.
Zhongji (CV 3) FRONT MU POINT FOR URINARY BLADDER
Location - on the anterior midline, 4 cun below umbilicus.
Indications: Difficulty in urination, enuresis, nocturnal emission, impotence, irregular menstruation, morbid
leucorrhea and infertility.
Needling Method - puncture perpendicularly 0.5 - 1.0 cun after urination. The point is contraindicated in
pregnancy.
Guanyuan (CV 4) FRONT MU POINT FOR SMALL INTESTINE
Location - on the anterior midline, 3 cun below umbilicus.
Indications
1. Emaciation, flaccid pattern of stroke, prolapsed of the anus
2. Nocturnal emissions, impotence, irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, uterine bleeding, morbid
leucorrhea, sterility, difficulty in urination, enuresis 3. Abdominal pain, diarrhea
Needling Method - puncture perpendicularly 0.5 - 1.0 cun after urination. Moxibustion is advisable frequently.
The point is contraindicated in pregnancy.
Shimen (CV 5) FRONT MU POINT FOR SAN JIAO
Location - on the anterior midline, 2 cun below the umbilicus.
Indications
1. Abdominal distension, edema, diarrhea
2. Nocturnal emissions, impotence, uterine bleeding, morbid leucorrhea, difficulty in urination
Needling Method - puncture perpendicularly 0.5 - 1.0 cun. The point is contraindicated in pregnancy.
Qihai (CV 6)
Location - on the anterior midline, 1.5 cun below the umbilicus.
Indications: 1. Collapsed
2. Abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, dysentery
3. Irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, nocturnal emissions, impotence
Needling Method - puncture perpendicularly 1.0 - 1.5 cun after urination. Moxibustion is advisable frequently.
The point is contraindicated in pregnancy.
Yinjiao (CV 7)
Location - on the anterior midline, 1 cun below the umbilicus.
Indications
1. Abdominal pain 2. Edema 3. Irregular menstruation, morbid leucorrhea, hernia
Needling Method - puncture perpendicularly 0.5 - 1.0 cun. The point is contraindicated in pregnancy.
Shenque (CV 8)
Location - in the center of the umbilicus.
Indications
1. Collapsed, flaccid pattern of stroke
2. Abdominal pain, abdominal distension, constipation, diarrhea
3. Edema, difficulty in urination
Needling Method - needling is contraindicated at this point. Moxibustion may be indirect.
Shuifen (CV 9)
Location - on the anterior midline, 1 cun above the umbilicus.
Indications
1. Edema, difficulty in urination
2. Abdominal pain, abdominal distension, diarrhea, regurgitation
Needling Method - puncture perpendicularly 0.5 - 1.0 cun; moxibustion is recommended for many conditions at
this point.

Xiawan (CV 10)


Location - on the anterior midline, 2 cun above the umbilicus.
Indications
1. Abdominal pain, abdominal distension, diarrhea, vomiting, indigestion
2. Abdominal masses
Needling Method - puncture perpendicularly 1.0 - 1.5 cun.

Jianli (CV 11)


Location - on the anterior midline, 3 cun above the umbilicus.
Indications
1. Stomach pain, abdominal pain, vomiting, poor appetite 2. Edema
Needling Method - puncture perpendicularly 1.0 - 1.5 cun.

Zhongwan (CV 12) FRONT MU POINT OF THE STOMACH


Location - on the anterior midline, 4 cun above the umbilicus, or midway between the umbilicus and the
xiphosternal symphysis.
Indications
1. Abdominal distension, diarrhea, stomach pin, vomiting, acid regurgitation, hiccups, poor appetite
2. Jaundice 3. Psychosis, epilepsy
Needling Method - puncture perpendicularly 1.0 - 1.5 cun.
Shangwan (CV 13)
Location - on the anterior midline, 5 cun above the umbilicus.
Indications
1. Abdominal distension, stomach pain, vomiting, acid regurgitation, hiccups, poor appetite
2. Epilepsy
Needling Method - puncture perpendicularly 1.0 - 1.5 cun.

Juque (CV 14) FRONT MU POINT OF THE HEART


Location - on the anterior midline, 6 cun above the umbilicus, or 2 cun below the xiphosternal symphysis.
Indication
1. Chest pain, palpitation 3. Psychosis, epilepsy
2. Stomach pain, vomiting , acid regurgitation
Needling Method - puncture obliquely downward 0.5 - 1.0 cun; avoid a deep insertion to prevent damaging the
liver.
Jiuwei (CV 15) LUO CONNECTING POINT
Location - on the anterior midline, 7 cun above the umbilicus, or 1 cun below the xiphosternal symphysis.
Indications
1. Oppression in the chest, chest pain, palpitations
2. Psychosis, epilepsy
3. Abdominal distension, hiccups, vomiting
Needling Method - puncture obliquely downward 0.5 - 1.0 cun.
Zhonting (CV 16)
Location - on the anterior midline, level with the 5th intercostal space, on the center of the xiphosternal symhysis.
Indications
1. Oppression in the chest, cardiac pain
2. Vomiting, infantile milk regurgitation
Needling Method - puncture transversely 0.2 - 0.3 cun.
Danzhong (CV 17) FRONT MU POINT OF THE PERICARDIUM, INFLUENTIAL POINT OF THE QI
Location - on the anterior midline, level with the 4th intercostal space, or at the midpoint between the nipples.
Indications
1. Oppression in the chest, chest pain
2. Cough, asthma 3. Vomiting, cardiac spasms 4. Insufficient lactation
Needling Method - puncture transversely 0.3 - 0.5 cun.
Yutang (CV 18)
Location - on the anterior midline, level with the 3rd intercostal space.
Indications
1. Oppression in the chest, chest pain
2. Cough, asthma 3. Vomiting
Needling Method - puncture transversely 0.3 - 0.5 cun.
Zigong (CV 19)
Location - on the anterior midline, level with the 2nd intercostal space.
Indications
1. Cough, asthma 2. Oppression in the chest, chest pain
Needling Method - puncture transversely 0.3 - 0.5 cun.
Huagai (CV 20)
Location - on the anterior midline, level with the 1st intercostal space, at the midpoint of the sternal angle.
Indications
1. Cough, asthma
2. Distension and pain in the chest and hypochondriac region
Needling Method - puncture transversely 0.3 - 0.5 cun.
Xuanji (CV 21)
Location - on the anterior midline, on the center of the manubrium of the sternum.
Indications
1. Cough, asthma, chest pain
2. Swelling and pain in the throat 3. Dyspeptic disease
Needling Method - puncture transversely 0.3 - 0.5 cun.

Tiantu (CV 22)


Location - on the anterior midline, in the center of the suprasternal fossa.
Indications
1. Cough, asthma, chest pain 3. Goiter
2. Swelling and pain in the throat, sudden aphonia, cardiac spasm, lump in the throat
Needling Method - puncture perpendicularly 0.2 - 0.3 cun, then turn the angle of the needle downward and direct
the needle internally along the posterior border of the manubrium of the sternum 0.5 - 1.0 cun. Correct angle
and depth of the needling method is essential to avoid damaging the lung and blood vessels.

Lianquan (CV 23)


Location - with the patient in a sitting position and the patient’s head slightly tilting Backwards, the point is
directly above the Adam’s Apple and on the midpoint of the upper border of the hyoid bone.
Indications
1. Aphasia with a stiff tongue, swollen and painful tongue, increased salivation, difficulty swallowing, sudden
aphonia and inflammation of the throat
Needling Method - puncture obliquely 0.5 - 0.8 cun towards the root of the tongue.

Chengjiang (CV 24)


Location - in the depression at the center of the mentolabial groove.
Indications
1. Deviated mouth, profuse salivation, stomatitis, swelling in the cheek and gums, toothache, sudden aphonia
2. Psychosis
Needling Method - puncture obliquely 0.3 - 0.5 cun.
