Climate Action
The goal of climate action is to be more sustainable globally and to protect the planet for
future generations (Sustainable Development Goals: Climate Action). The UN wants to educate
people on the effects of climate change and what humans can do to slow climate change. This
Being more sustainable globally means to cut down carbon emissions significantly so the
atmosphere isn’t damaged. If carbon emissions don’t decline, future generations will be left to
deal with the consequences of climate change. Climate change has also caused sea levels the rise.
The State of the Global Climate in 2018 stated,“2018 was the fourth warmest year in a row on
record, showing how temperatures are continuing to rise globally” (The State of the Global
Climate in 2018). The target of the climate action goal is to slow climate change and its effects.
By educating people about climate change, they may want to take action and advocate for
climate action. By calling on governments to take action, more people will contribute to the
cause, such as reduced carbon emissions for large corporations. Between 1998 and 2017, climate
related disasters claimed 1.3 million lives (UN Infographic: Take Urgent Action To Combat
Climate Change And Its Impacts). Climate Action is an important global goal because it affects
Climate change affects everyone, and its effects have become rapid in recent years. The
Climate Action). .85 degrees Celsius in equivalent to 33.5 degrees Farhenheit, which will have
dire consequences for the environment. Temperature rise will lead to an increase in floods,
hurricanes, and other severe weather events (Gather IQ: How Much Can We Risk?). In colder
regions of the Earth, rising temperatures have caused the tundras and ice caps to melt. The
melting of tundras and ice caps has led to lose of habitat for its inhabitants, which has led to
endangered and extinct species. The melting of the tundras would show the effects of climate
change and the point of no return (Britannica School: Tundra). The UN states that, “Global
emissions of carbon dioxide have increased by almost fifty percent since the year 1990” (UN,
Sustainable Development: Climate Action). Carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere by
cars, trucks, planes, industry, and power plants. Scientists say that humans have until 2050 to
bring carbon emissions down before the consequences will become much more significant
(Gather IQ: Going Zero Carbon Is All The Rage. But Will It Slow Climate Change?). The UN
has also said that, “Oceans have warmed, the amounts of snow and ice have diminished and sea
levels have risen. Temperatures globally have risen, leading to a variety of consequences
(Sustainable Development: Climate Action). This has led to decrease in food supply, spread of
diseases, and other catastrophic consequences (Gather IQ: Going Zero Carbon Is All The Rage.
But Will It Slow Climate Change?). Without action, temperatures will continue to rise and the
Climate change affects the entire world in a multitude of ways, and humanity should be
committed to combatting it. Climate change is naturally occurring, but human activity has caused
it to increase dramatically (Gather IQ: Climate Action). The primary cause of climate change is
the increase in burning fossil fuels and releasing more CO2 into the air. Effects of climate
change can also include changing weather patterns, rising sea levels, and other severe weather
events. July 2019 was even the hottest month on record in history. Around the world, there was
heightened temperatures in 2019. Without action, temperatures will continue to rise, and July
2019 will no longer be the hottest month on record (Gather IQ: Congratulations, You’ve Lived
Through The World’s Warmest Month). The UN’s goal is to spread information and create
awareness about climate change and its effects (Sustainable Development: Climate Action).
Students around the world are participating in climate strikes to advocate for climate action. As a
protest to lack of action by governments, students are advocating by walking out of school.
Students are advocating for a sustainable future, which includes renewable energy sources and
reducing carbon emissions (Gather IQ, 350.org Team: Schools #ClimateStrike: What’s Going
On Around The World). Even will less severe effects of climate change, humanity will be
affected greatly (Gather IQ: How Much Can We Risk?). To help reduce the effects of climate
change, individuals can reduce, reuse, recycle, educate others, and find other ways to be
sustainable. With education and knowledge of the outcome of climate change, people will
supports others and politicians with the same goals. Through advocacy and education, the world
