Background of the Company

Mary and Christ Maternity and Lying-in Clinic is the group research client. The Owner Mary and
Christ Maternity and Lying-in Clinic, Ma’am Marietta P. Zipagan. The clinic is located at Soliven St. Litex,
Brgy. Commonwealth, Quezon City, Philippines, 1121. Established 2014, Mary and Christ Maternity and
Lying-in Clinic (MCMLIC) aims to willingly serve the community with the best healthcare service its
components deserve and focuses on building a structured healthcare organization that equitably ensures
quality healthcare service to its patients. It envisions raising the standards for clinical healthcare in the
community and ensures a quality and patient-friendly facility for maternal and neonatal services. Its
objectives include: (1) providing regular pre-natal clinic and facilities of early complications and
immunization to pregnant women during pre-natal visit for safe pregnancy, and delivery; (2) facilitating
referral system of complicated maternal and neonatal cases to a higher level of care; (3) applying prescribed
protocol for essential newborn care and provide initial immunization to newborn babies for hepatitis B and
BCG; and (4) promoting responsible parenthood, and cervical cancer awareness and prevention among
women at risk through counselling, vaccination, and screening to Pap smear and V/A. According to our
research, Mary and Christ Maternity and Lying-in Clinic was one of Seal of Excellence Awardees of
Maternal and Neonatal Health Summit 2017 in Quezon City (Figure 1). Ma’am Marietta P. Zipagan is
a Bachelor of Science in Midwifery (BSM) graduate. A Registered Midwife (RM) in the Philippines, a
board passer of Midwifery Licensure Examination. The examination is conducted by the Board of
Midwifery under the supervision of the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC).
The Current System that the Mary and Christ Maternity and Lying-in Clinic uses is manual filing
of forms fill-up by the patients which contains their medical records (Figure 2 & 3). The forms are manually
compiled by the Proprietor, Ma’am Marietta Zipagan in a folder and sorted by year. The problems are: clinic
finds it very difficult to compile the forms and documents because of confusion in compiling each patient
forms and sometimes other forms are missing or misplaced that causes delay/interruption of the process.
That is why creating a computerized patient information system for the clinic is great, great idea that will
solve the problems in processing of admitting the patient.
Mary and Christ Maternity and Lying-in Clinic personnel are the Proprietor, Ma’am P. Zipagan, the
one who uses the current system. OB-Gynecologist, Ma’am Silvia Marie Rigor, Clinic Administrator, Sir
Nelson P. Baldonado, Pediatrician, Ma’am Mary Jane T. Pang-itan, Registered Midwife, Ma’am Eurica
C. Jumento, On-Call BEmONC (Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care) Midwife, Ma’am Armin
C. Rabe and Utility/Liaison, Ma’am Rosemarie G. Liwag. The process of Admitting the patients is (1) Fill-
Up the Patient form, (2) scheduling the appointment of Patient to the OB-Gynecologist/Physician/Midwife,
(3) Followed by any complaints of the patient, (4) Billing and Payment.
