Welcome to the graduate program in Additive Manufacturing & Design (AMD)!

I’m Jaclyn Stimely, Program Coordinator, and I work with Dr. Simpson, Director of the AMD Program, on
program administration, logistics, policies, and procedures. As such, I’ll work with each of you
individually to ensure that you meet your academic goals through the program, including working to
match you with a faculty advisor, assisting with academic planning, and navigating Graduate School
policies. Below I want to share some important information with you.

Next Step
After you accept the offer of admission from the program, the Graduate School will begin verifying your
eligibility to be admitted to the Graduate School. Once this step is complete (24-48 hours post
acceptance), you will be matriculated and receive an email from Identity Services about activating your
Penn State Access Account. Once you activate your Access Account, it will initiate the activation of your
LionPATH account.

Please note, you may not be able to access some of the below action items until your Access Account is
activated.

Registration
Many students in the MEng AMD program are full-time working professionals, so the typical workload is
1-2 courses a semester. You will register for classes via LionPATH. Course content will be accessed via
Canvas.

For planning purposes, the program is scheduled to offer ESC 545 and IE 527 each fall semester, EDSGN
562 and MATSE 567 each spring semester, and ME 566 each summer semester. For your reference, I
attached my AMD Plan of Study template, which includes an academic plan for completing the program
in 1.5 years or 3 years. These templates are meant to serve as a guide. I am happy to work through an
individualized plan of study with you.

Please be sure to complete your Summer 2019 Pre-Registration Guide found in your LionPATH To-Do’s.
The system will not allow you to register until this step is complete.

Core Courses
The program offers ME 566 each summer, but new incoming students are not eligible for
enrollment as the course has a prerequisite of IE 527.

Colloquium
Colloquium is not offered during the summer semester. You will fulfill your colloquium
requirement (ME 590) either fall semester 2019 or spring 2020.

Electives
We are offering a new elective, AMD 597: Legal Issues with Additive Manufacturing (2 credits).
The course is offered during the 2nd six-week summer session (6/26/19 – 8/7/19). Additionally,

attached is the approved elective listing for the program. If you wish to take an elective not found on
this list, please contact me for program approval.

SARI@PSU
SARI@PSU is a required responsible conduct of research (RCR) education program for graduate students
at Penn State that must be completed in order to graduate. There are two parts to SARI@PSU:

Part 1: Online CITI Program –Due June 28, 2019. Instructions to access the CITI program are attached.

Part 2: SARI@PSU Canvas Modules – Due July 31, 2019. Instructions to complete the activities are
attached.

AMD Canvas Student Center

The AMD Student Center on Canvas was created to share important program resources, policies, and
procedures with you. Please reference the material and don’t hesitate to contact me with any
questions!

Thank you,
Jaclyn

All graduate students are required to complete the CITI program in order to graduate. Please
follow the below directions to access the online training. When complete, please email your
completion certificate to amdprogram@psu.edu.

1. Go to citi.psu.edu
2. Select your appropriate affiliation

3. Log-in using your Penn State access account

4. Select “Add a Course”

1
5. Select “I need to take RCR training to satisfy SARI@PSU training requirements, to
satisfy a grant requirement, or for professional improvements”

6. Select “graduate student”

2
7. Select “Responsible conduct of research (RCR) course”

8. You will return to the main menu/course listing. Displayed is the RCR course you just
enrolled in. Select this course to begin.

3
9. You must read and complete the Integrity Assurance Statement prior to beginning the
course.

10. Complete each required module and one elective module for the course.

4
11. At the end of the content for each module, you will be prompted by a link to take the
quiz. Quizzes are short, typically less than 10 questions, but you must complete each quiz
in a single session. You cannot save and return.

If you do not pass the quiz with the minimum score, you will have the option to retake
the quiz. At the end of each quiz, you can take the next module in the course, return to the
module list for the course, or return to the Main Menu.

12. After completing all necessary modules with a passing score, you can view your
completion record by clicking “My Records” from the menu bar. You will also receive
an email with a link to your completion report.

13. Choose “View/Print” to save your completion record as a PDF or choose “Share” to
create a link to your completion record. Email amdprogram@psu.edu either the PDF
version of your completion record or share the link to your completion record in order to
