AUDITING
W Term Terms What it means
Audit A systematic, independent and documented process for obtaining
evidence and evaluating it objectively to determine the extent to
which audit criteria are fulfilled
Audit Criteria Set of policies, procedures or requirements
Audit Evidence Records, statements of fact or other information, which are relevant
to the audit criteria and verifiable
Audit Findings Results of the evaluation of the collected audit evidence against
audit criteria
Audit Conclusion Outcome of an audit, provided by the audit team after consideration
of the audit objectives and all audit findings.
Audit Client Organization or person requesting an audit
Auditee Organization being audited
Auditor Person with the competence to conduct an audit
Audit Team One or more auditors conducting an audit, supported if needed by
technical experts
Technical Expert Person who provides specific knowledge or expertise to the audit
team
Audit Programme Set of one or more audits planned for a specific time frame and
directed towards a specific purpose audit plan
Audit Plan Description of the activities and arrangements for an audit
Audit Scope Extent and boundaries of an audit
Competence Demonstrated personal attributes and demonstrated ability to apply
knowledge and skills
Accreditation Formal recognition of competence to issue a certificate
Authority What you can do (compare with responsibility)

Calibration Accuracy related to a recognized measurement standard
Certification Written assurance (from an accredited organization) that a product,
process or system conforms to specific requirements
Characteristic Distinguishing feature (variable or attribute) that may be physical,
sensory, behavioural, time-based, ergonomic or functional
Compliance Fulfillment of a regulatory requirement
Concession Permission to use or release a product that does not conform
Confidentiality Ensuring information is accessible only to those authorized to
access
Conformity Fulfillment of a requirement (compare with Compliance)
Note: The term “conformance” is synonymous but deprecated.
Consistency Uniformity of successive results or aspects of a system or process
that fit well together
Consumer Member of the public purchasing or using property, products or
services for private purposes (a type of customer)
Continual improvement Recurring activity to increase the ability to fulfill requirements and

Control Establishing and meeting requirements
Control Plan Documented description of the systems and processes required for
controlling product (automotive)
Correction Action to eliminate a detected nonconformity
Corrective action Action to eliminate the causes of detected nonconformity
Customer Organization or person that receives a product (may be an internal
customer)
Customer focus Understand current and future customer needs, meet customer
requirements and strive to exceed customer expectations
Customer satisfaction Customer's perception of the degree to which the customer's
requirements have been fulfilled
Defect Non-fulfillment of a requirement related to an intended or specified
use
Design and/or A set of processes that transforms customer needs into
Development specifications for the product, processor system
Design population Designated group of workers delimited as a percentile range of the
general population, defined accorded to relevant characteristics such
as gender, age, skill level etc.
Design responsible Organization with authority to establish a new, or change an

Deviation permit Permission to depart from the originally specified requirements of a
product prior to realization
