AUDITING

Audit Criteria Set of policies, procedures or requirements
Audit Evidence Records, statements of fact or other information, which are relevant

Audit Findings Results of the evaluation of the collected audit evidence against
audit criteria
Audit Conclusion Outcome of an audit, provided by the audit team after consideration
of the audit objectives and all audit findings.
Audit Client Organization or person requesting an audit
Auditee Organization being audited
Auditor Person with the competence to conduct an audit
Audit Team One or more auditors conducting an audit, supported if needed by
technical experts
Technical Expert Person who provides specific knowledge or expertise to the audit
team
Audit Programme Set of one or more audits planned for a specific time frame and
directed towards a specific purpose audit plan
Audit Plan Description of the activities and arrangements for an audit
Audit Scope Extent and boundaries of an audit
Competence Demonstrated personal attributes and demonstrated ability to apply
knowledge and skills
Accreditation Formal recognition of competence to issue a certificate

Calibration Accuracy related to a recognized measurement standard
Certification Written assurance (from an accredited organization) that a product,
process or system conforms to specific requirements
Characteristic Distinguishing feature (variable or attribute) that may be physical,
sensory, behavioural, time-based, ergonomic or functional
Compliance Fulfillment of a regulatory requirement
Concession Permission to use or release a product that does not conform
Confidentiality Ensuring information is accessible only to those authorized to
access
Conformity Fulfillment of a requirement (compare with Compliance)
Note: The term “conformance” is synonymous but deprecated.
Consistency Uniformity of successive results or aspects of a system or process
that fit well together
Consumer Member of the public purchasing or using property, products or
services for private purposes (a type of customer)
Continual improvement Recurring activity to increase the ability to fulfill requirements and

in the form of products or services
Verification Confirmation that requirements have been met (for example, does
the design conform?)
Vulnerability A weakness in an asset or group of assets that could allow it to be
exploited and harmed by one or more threats
Vulnerable group Group of individuals who share one or several characteristics that
are the basis of discrimination or adverse social, economic, cultural,
political or health circumstances, that cause them to lack the means
to achieve their rights or otherwise enjoy equal opportunities
Worker Person who performs work (may be self-employed)
Work environment Physical, chemical, biological, organizational, social and cultural
factors surrounding a worker
