A Resolution on the Use of English as the Medium of lnstruction
at the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde

ln the spirit of inclusion and accessibility, in support of the internationalization initiatives (e.9. faculty
and student mobility, in lieu of the submission of IELTS and TOEFL requirements) of the College, and
pursuant to the agreement following the discussions during the AC Meeting on November 21,2017 at
Salle de Auvergne, l-704 DLS-CSB AKIC Campus, the Academic Council (AC) declares its
adherence to the use of English as the medium of instruction in all courses (major, general education,
core, institutional, and elective) in Benilde.

However, Filipino and other courses which by default use Philippine (e.9., Tagalog, Cebuano,
Hiligaynon/llonggo, Waray-Waray, Kapampangan, etc.) and foreign (e.9. French, Mandarin Chinese,
Spanish, etc.) languages as the medium of instruction will continue to use the same in these classes.
Alternatives (e.9. learning and courseware-related materials in English) must be provided to non-
Philippine language speakers to achieve the desired learning outcomes. Furthermore, students'final
creative outputs, papers, productions, projects, etc. may be in a Philippine language with a required
English version for wider national and international accessibility.

For Deaf Learners who are provided with bilingual education, the medium of instruction in all courses
will be Filipino Sign Language (FSL) and writte! English unless the course by default uses Filipino, in
