Math is challenging in many ways. Math here and there, math is everywhere. The
month of June and July is full of discussions and quizzes which is about the Module1 and
In our first meeting, Sir Encabo, oriented us and gave the requirements like the
module. In our next meetings in June, the lessons were discussed like Quadratic Equation
and its four ways to solve it including extracting square roots, factoring, using the
quadratic formula, and completing the square. In the end of every lessons, sir Encabo
gave us quizzes or summative to enhance more our understanding. Last July, the first
lesson that was discussed on the first meeting was about lesson 3 of module 1 titled "The
Nature Roots of a Quadratic Equation." This was all about getting the roots of a quadratic
equation. The value of the expression 𝑏 2 − 4𝑎𝑐 is called the discriminant of the quadratic
equation 𝑎𝑥 2 + 𝑏𝑥 + 𝑐 = 0. This value can be used to describe the nature of the roots of
a quadratic equation. When the discriminant is equal to zero. Then the roots are real
numbers and are equal. When the discriminant is greater than zero and a perfect square,
then the roots are rational numbers but are not equal and when the discriminant is greater
than zero but not a perfect square, then the roots are irrational numbers and are not equal
and when the discriminant is less than a zero, then the equation has no real roots. The
second lesson that was tackled last month was all about the sum and product of roots of
quadratic equations. Remember that the roots of a quadratic equation can be determined
using the quadratic formula and you will now find the sum and products of these roots.
The next lesson that was discussed was all about equations that is transformable into
quadratic equations in which once the equations are transformed into quadratic
equations, then you can also use the methods of solving quadratic equations such as
extracting square roots, factoring, completing the square, and using the quadratic
formula. The fourth lesson that was tackled last July, was all about solving problems
involving quadratic equations which there are problems you need to solve using the
quadratic formula and so on. We discussed also the quadratic inequalities which is an
inequality that contains a polynomial of degree 2 and can be written using the standard
formula by replacing the equals into greater than, less than, greater than or equal to, less
than or equal to. Also by getting the x and y to plot in the graph of parabola. The module
1 was discussed and moved on. We then discussed the module to consume more time
which were all about the introduction to quadratic functions, graphs, finding the equals of
a quadratic function and the last discussion was all about the applications of quadratic
function. After all the discussion for unit 1, sir Encabo then gave us quiz to enhance our
understanding in the discussion. Then after the quiz, sir Encabo gave us spare of the time
to make our project which is the module that contains all the lessons that were discussed
from module 1 to 2.
After the month of July was done, we have learned all the topics and on how to
solve the problem and equations involving the quadratic equations and functions. So
much learned thanks to our grade 9 Math adviser, sir Anthony Encabo.
