Lab manual 1

Q: What is networking?
Ans: Networking, also known as computer networking, is the practice of transporting and
exchanging data between nodes over a shared medium in an information system.

Q: What is router?
Ans: A router is a networking device that forwards data packets between computer networks.
On router different devices are connected.

Q: What is switch?
Ans: A network switch is networking hardware that connects devices on a computer network by
using packet switching to receive, and forward data to the destination device.
On switch same network devices are connected.

Q: What is packet switch?

Ans: To move chunks of data from one device to another device we used packet switch.
Q: What is protocol?
Ans: Internet Protocol (IP) is the principal set (or communications protocol) of digital message
formats and rules for exchanging messages between computers across a single network or a
series of interconnected networks.
Q: Types of networking

LAN: Local Area Network

WAN: Wide Area Network
WLAN: Wireless Local Area Network
MAN: Metropolitan Area Network
SAN: Storage Area Network, System Area Network, Server Area Network, or sometimes
Small Area Network
CAN: Campus Area Network, Controller Area Network, or sometimes Cluster Area
Network
PAN: Personal Area Network
Lab manual 2a
Q: Introduction to packet tracer
Packet Tracer is a cross-platform visual simulation tool designed by Cisco Systems that
allows users to create network topologies and imitate modern computer networks.
The software allows users to simulate the configuration of Cisco routers and switches
using a simulated command line interface.
Packet Tracer makes use of a drag and drop user interface, allowing users to add and
remove simulated network devices as they see fit.
The software is mainly focused towards Certified Cisco Network Associate Academy
students as an educational tool for helping them learn fundamental CCNA concepts.
Previously students enrolled in a CCNA Academy program could freely download and
use the tool free of charge for educational use.

Lab 04 :
Message passing through multi routers and switches:

First of all we used four end devices two routers and two generic switches then we attached all
these devices through wires then we assign ip addresses

After assigning the ip address and gateway to PC

We go to PC1
We assign gateways and ip addresses in same way to PC2

Go to PC3
After that we assign addresses to routers
And give serial numbers and RIP addresses and when we set ip addresses we always connection
on then we pass through message
