Fluid Mechanics Laboratory 2nd Stage

Report Writing

Laboratory Report Guidelines

Typically, the report will contain the following sections, see Fig. (A.1):

1. Cover Sheet University of Zakho

College of Engineering
It should contain: Petroleum Eng. Dep.
• Experiment Title
• Name of Student Experimental Title
• Stage
• Group Name:
Stage:
• Experimental No. ( ) Group:
Ex. No.:
• Date of Experimental Date of Experiment:
Date of Submitting:
• Date of Submitting

2. Table of Contents
Each page of the report must be numbered for this section.

3. Introduction
The introduction should give some background on the problem your
experiment investigated.

4. Objective / Purpose
In this section you determine the major advantage of the experiment.

5. Materials and Apparatus

Make a list of all items used in the lab. Alternatively, materials can be
included as part of the procedure.

6. Description of Equipment (Sketch or Picture)

7. Procedures
Write a paragraph (complete sentences) which explains what you did in the
lab as a short summary. Add details (step by step) of your procedure in such a
way that anyone else could repeat the experiment.

8. Calculations and Results

In this section you present your results and contain a formal analysis of the
data with tables, graphs, etc.

9. Discussion / Analysis
In this section you discuss the meaning and importance of the experimental
results, compare the results to theoretical predictions, describe the accuracy of the
results, address discrepancies, and ultimately draw conclusion in regards to the
objectives of the experiment.

10. Conclusion
This section summarizes the conclusions that have been made and gives
specific recommendations for the next steps that could be taken in subsequent
experiments or further research.

11. Reference
It is extremely important to list all literature (books, articles, papers, etc.).
