EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
With the aim “to provide excellent service for quality education”, the Academic Sector
continues to conduct or develop innovative programs.
The university is currently offering a total of 74 degree programs in its three campuses.
Three (3) new programs were offered starting SY 2018-2019. These are: Bachelor of Arts in
Communication, Bachelor of Arts in English Language, and Bachelor of Arts in Filipino Language.
Existing curriculum were also enhanced using the Policies, Standards and Guidelines issued by
Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
There is an increase (5.74%) in the number of enrolees during the year, which is due to
the increase in the number of freshmen students. BSU students continue to excel in both
academic and sports competitions.
The University produced 1,814 graduates during the year: 1,661 are graduates from the
La Trinidad Campus, 68 from Bokod Campus, and 85 from Buguias Campuses. BSU graduates
also excelled in licensure examinations; 3 graduates where among the top 10 successful
examinies while the University ranked as top performing school nationwide in Libararian
Licensure Examination and top 4 in the Nursing Licensure Examination
Ten (10) faculty members finished their doctorate degree and four (4) finished their
masteral degree in 2018. In addition, forty-four (44) faculty members availed of scholarships to
pursue advance studies. Faculty members and staff under the Academic Sector also
participated in various seminars/trainings and conferences, forty-seven (47) of which are
international conferences.
The auxiliary services continue to cater to the needs of the students. This year the
Office of the University Registrar released 3,845 documents, while the University Health
Services provided various services to 8,238 clients. The main library served 131,610 clients,
majority of which are college and graduate school students. Aside from the guidance services
offered, the Office of Student Services also conducted various trainings/seminars/workshops
for the students.

The University also offers the language program through the International
Language Center (ILC).
Special Program for English Language and Literature (SPELL) - a two-term program that
provides oppurtunities for students to develop their cultural awareness, and critical
thinking skills as they study English language and literature.
Intensive Functional English Language Program (IFELP) - One-month program designed
to develop the reading, writing, listening, speaking and viewing skills of the learner.
English Language Proficiency for Individual Advancement (ELPIA)- one on one English
tutorial that aims to advance the English language proficiency of the students in both
soken and written English.
Levels of Instruction:
ELPIA 101- Emergent English Proficiency Course
ELPIA 102- Intermediate English Proficiency Course
ELPIA 103- Advanced English Proficiency Course
B. Program Accreditation
Twelve (12) degree programs being offered by the University has undergone Survey
Visits by teams from the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the
Philippines (AACCUP), Inc during the year. The AACCUP also assessed other programs for
Phase 2 evaluation of the 4th Survey Visit on December 2, 2018.
The results of the survey visits including the assessment of eight programs for
Phase 2 evaluation of the 4th Survey Visit are are presented on Table 1.

C. Program Certification
Three new programs of the University were awarded with a Certification of Program
Compliance (CoPC) by the Commission on Higher Education – Cordillera Administrative
Region (CHED-CAR). The CoPCs for the Bachelor of Arts in English Language and the Bachelor
of Arts in Filipino Language were awarded on January 18, 2018, while that of the Bachelor of
Arts in Communication was awarded on April 16, 2018. These programs were offered
starting 1st semester of SY 2017-2018 by the Department of Humanities of the College of Arts
and Sciences (CAS).

During the year, thirty (30) foreign students enrolled in various programs offered
by the University. Three (3) are doctorate, twelve (12) are masteral, and fifteen (15) are
baccalaureate students. Majority (9) came from South Korea, followed by Ghana (7), and
Nigeria (6). The list of foreign students is in Table 5.

B. Graduates
The University produced 1,814 graduates during the year: 118 for the the 1st
semester SY 2017-2018; 1,634 for the 2nd semester SY 2017-2018, and 62 for the Midyear
Term of 2018. About 92% (1,661) are graduates from the La Trinidad Campus. Bokod and
Buguias Campuses produced 68 and 85 graduates, respectively.
The colleges with the most number of graduates are the CTE (513), CA (396), and
CHET (186). Among the graduates, 102 earned masteral degrees and 24 earned doctorate
degrees.
Two magna cum laude and 121 cum laude led the 1,463 baccalaureate graduates
during the Commencement Exercises that was held on June 14, 2018.
The distribution of graduates by academic level and unit is presented in Figure 4
while the detailed number of graduates per program is shown in Table 6.

In addition, there were 176 trainees who finished the Academic Purposes Training
Courses on different areas of Speaking and Listening , Reading and Writing, and Grammar
at the International Language Center last May 21 to June 1, 2018. The list of participants is
shown in Table 9.

D. Student Awards
Students of the University earned various awards in various national, regional and
local academic and athletic competitions. Among these are the following:
Unilab Foundation’s Ideas Positive (with PhP 100,000 grant for project
implementation)
Just like the previous year, students from the College of Home Economics and
Technology are among the winners of UNILAB Foundation’s Ideas Positive. After
joining the Ideas Positive Boot Camp which was held at Camp Allen, Santa Cruz,
Laguna on February 14-16, 2018, Team Buhay Pag-asa (Team BP) which is comprised
of five BS Nutrition and Dietetics students were awarded PhP 100,000.00 to
implement “Project Blood Norms, Pulse Apt” at Bahong, La Trinidad, Benguet.

Seventy six percent (3,801) and fifty nine percent (1,186) of the University’s students
benefited from the Free Tuition 2017 Program during the second semester of SY 2017-2018
and Midyear 2018, respectively. On the otherhand, ninety three percent (5,929) students
benefited from the implementation of RA 10931 or the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary
Education Act during the first semester of SY 2018-2019. The distribution of beneficiaries by
campus, and the total number of beneficiaries and corresponding amount are presented in
Figures 12 and 13.

G. Student Development
Students, with the support of the University, are encouraged to be involved in various
seminars/trainings conducted both outside and within the University. A total of 102 seminars
were attended by the students; International (3), National (13), Regional (12), and Local (74)
(Figure 14).

III. FACULTY
A. Faculty Profile
The University has a total of 368 faculty members holding plantilla positions; 313 at La
Trinidad, 19 at Bokod, and 36 at Buguias campus. 189 (60.38%) are female, and 124 (39.62%)
are male.
The University has 37 full-pledged professors. Many of the faculty members (148)
however, hold Instructor positions, followed by Assistant Professors (105), and the rest are
Associate Professors (78).
In terms of highest educational attainment, there are 122 (33.15%) faculty members
who are Ph.D. degree holders, 229 (62.23%) are MA/MS degree holders, and only 17 (4.62%)
are BA/BS holders.
The distributions of faculty members by sex, position, and highest educational
attainment in the three campuses are presented in Figure 15.

The expenses of the University Library and Information Services in 2018 amounted to
PhP 11,145,760. The distribution of which is presented in Figure 19. Almost 5 million pesos
(45%) were spent in the purchase of 1,084 book titles, while 4 million was utilized in the

The main library had 131,610 clients during the year. Almost all (91%) are graduate

D. Student Services
The Office of Student Services (OSS) facilitated the conduct and/or participation of
students (Elementary, Secondary and Tertiary Students) with a total of 115 seminars from
Elementary to Tertiary level within or outside of the University (Annex H).

Orientation and Workshop on Integrating Gender and Development in the Arts and Culture
The orientation was conducted on January 19-20, 2018 at the CTE Function Hall. The
speakers were Dr. Ryan Guinaran, Prof. Arwin Villalon, and Ms. Frances Noelle Escalera.
Members of the various CCA Performing Groups participated in the said orientation.

Participants to the conference held on April 23-25, 2018 came from as far as Bicol
Region. Experts from Bicol, Manila, Baguio and Mountain Province were invited to speak and
demonstrate on the skills on stage plays, playing indigenous musical instruments, cultural
dancing, chanting and singing.

The University, together with the Philippine Association for Graduate Education
(PAGE) – CAR Chapter and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) hosted the 2018 PAGE
Annual Conference and Regional Assembly on February 16-18, 2018 at the College of Teacher
Education (CTE).
The Midyear Seminar-Workshop, with the theme “Teaching Speaking in the New
Curricula” was held on November 8-10, 2018 at the University’s CTE Function Hall. The
participants came from 26 schools and universities from different parts of the country.

The 7th National Agroforestry Congress, which was held on November 14-16, 2018 at

130 individuals who came from State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), National Line Agencies
