 BACKGROUND

The knowledge of English for the development of the Indonesian nation

becomes an inevitable matter. Like it or not, English is something that every
Indonesian needs to learn. Even if we don’t have the opportunity to go abroad,
this knowledge is still needed as well. At least, we are not confused when
watching news in English or reading books in English because there is no
translation.

We live in era of globalization and there will be a lot of advances in this

country, one of which is free trade. In the future, more and more foreign
companies will be established in Indonesia and the more free foreign workers
entering the company, making competition in achieving work more stringent.

In this case, in addition to qualified knowledge and skills, mastery in using

English should be developed. Mastery English can increase your value and will be
appreciated in the world.

Mastery in English certainly makes us safe in interacting with new people

from any nation. Mastery in English also has a lot of things in social life and there
is absolutely no loss in it.

However, even though many people are aware of benefits of speaking

English, there are still people who feel reluctant to learn English. In fact, to learn
English is not too difficult if we want to be truly consistent in learning and
routinely practice gradually.

 DISCUSSION

There are four skills in learning English. When we learn English, first we
listen, then we speak, then we read and finally we write. Listening, speaking,
reading and writing are the four language skills we need to develop for complete
communication.We need to master to improve our English. There are some
methods to help you master those four skills. Here are some tips and tricks to
learn English well.

Listening skill : how we can improve by

 Watching western movies
We can get a lot
vocabulary if we are using an
English subtitle while we are
watching a movie. Whenever
we see a vocabulary and
think it’s an important word,
just pause the movie, write it
down and translate it.
 Listening to music
We can pay attention to the
lyrics. If we find something
difficult to understand, just
translate it.
Speaking skill:
 Talk and record yourself
We can tell our
activities or someone we
admire. This may sounds
funny, but it help us realize
repeating the recording.

Reading skill:
 Read books and articles in
English
Reading books and articles in
English is a great way to get
more vocabulary and learn
about the grammar. Try to
start with easy books, even
children’s books. We can
learn how certain phrases is
used in sentence.
Writing skill:
 Journaling daily
We can start a daily journal.
Write about anything we
daily want, just write in English.
Alternatively, we can start a
personal blog and use that for
our English better.

 CONCLUSION

English is an International language. Being able to speak English is not just

about being able to communicate with native English speakers, it is the most
common language in the world. If we want to speak to someone from another
country then we certainly use English on it. To master English, we need to
practice. Practice makes perfect, which means that if we want to improve a certain
skill, we have to practice it. As a beginner learner, we will need to achieve
listening skill, speaking skill, reading skill and writing skill. We can learn and do
some tips above, anywhere and anytime. As long as we want it, nothing can’t be
done.
