A faithful copy of the original UZI, but incorporating more advanced materials technology internally. It was originally
manufactured in small numbers originally in anticipation of sales from firearms enthusiasts, but became so wildly
popular that Shakur Arms was caught off-guard by demand. The company ramped up production immediately, and
millions have been made since that time. The Uzi II is simple, reliable, and much prized on the frontier worlds.

After the success of their Uzi SMG, Shakur arms decided to follow-up with production of the Mini-Uzi. Anticipating a

of organized crime. Shakur Arms was attacked by the media in a frenzy. The company ceased production and
sales, but this has had little effect on its availability.

FAM-90
(Fusil Automatique Magnetique - 2090)
The standard infantry weapon of front-line French infantry, the FAM-90 gauss rifle fires single shots at high velocity, giving
good aimed fire accuracy & range, and fires bursts at much lower velocity, giving the rifle excellent controllability on
automatic fire. The optic sights incorporate a low-power laser range finder for aimed fire. An HR-17 30mm grenade launcher
is mounted below the barrel. The US Army’s M-4 assault rifle is a license-made version of the FAM-90.

very low noise weapon, which makes it excellent for harrassment fire from concealment. It can also penetrate light armour at
reasonable ranges. Due to its great physical length, the FTE-10 has gained the nickname “Kentucky Long Rifle” among
American soldiers. In American service, the rifle is known as the M-10.

(Surmkarabiner-19)
Now the standard service weapon of the German army, the SK-19 is clearly a progressive development of the Traylor Arms M-
2 assault rifle. The main improvements over the M-2 consist of the substitution of a reliable ETC cartridge and the inclusion of
an integral 30mm grenade launcher below the barrel. With a gyroscopic stabilizer to allow good control even on autofire, the
SK-19 is generally regarded as the most devastating close-in weapon in service anywhere. The USMC M-5 is a modified SK-

The SG-77 was originally produced under license in Japan as the Type-79 assault rifle, and it remains in use as Japan’s
standard service rifle. However, Kurita Arms is now rumoured to be working on the development of a gauss rifle of exceptional
performance as a replacement for the SG-77. At this type, it remains to be seen if this Kurita Arms replacement model will be
put on the world market and made generally available.

Wu-Beijing Type-49
The Type-49 assault rifle is unique among modern military arms. Its uniqueness stems from a return to an older design which
uses a trigger-magazine-barrel layout rather than the more efficient bullpup layout. This results in a longer rifle with no gain in
barrel length, although it has a slightly longer range, it is nowhere near as “handy” as a bullpup design, as to be so would
require the stock folded, which makes aimed fire almost impossible.

Ramirez-Abruggo BF-1
The BF-1 was the first modern mass-produced ETC (electro-thermal cartridge) round rifle in use, but it has now been replaced
by more modern weapon designs. Even when in first-line service, the BF-1 weapon’s performance was considered to be
disappointing. It had superlative range, but remained very uncontrollable on automatic and was notoriously unreliable.
The BF-1 currently remains widely used only because it was originally produced in extremely large numbers. While it was
initially quite expensive to produce, surplus models are now generally available for purchase at a fairly inexpensive price.

Support Weapons

Type-81 Storm Gun

Shortly before the Central Asian War, there was a flurry of interest in man-carried heavy caliber “storm guns”, mostly brought
on by Manchuria’s adoption of the Type-81. The storm gun was intended to provide light antivehicle and anti-bunker fire, and
the exploding round was expected to give a good area fire capability. In service, however, the weapon proved disappointing, so
although it is still in service, no replacement is planned, and private interest in this type of weapon has largely dried up. One
problem with earlier versions involved the exposed recoil cylinder of the telescoping shock absorbing shoulder stock. Sand and
grit contaminated the lubricants of the cylinder, fouling to the point that Manchurian troops (those not discarding it altogether)
were often forced to brace the shoulder stock against a rock or tree when firing. After the Central Asian War, most Type-81s
were fitted with a flexible fabric stock cover to prevent this.

Lasers
Lasers emit beams of coherent light which can cause damage to a target. A kilogram of TNT
produces five million joules of energy (5mj). Since one watt for one second equals one joule, a one-
second, five-megawatt beam produces the energy equivalent of one kilogram of TNT.

9
In combat it is very difficult to maintain a laser on a target for one second, and in any event, a five
megawatt beam lasting one second requires more power than a man can carry with him. However, a
short-duration, high energy beam produces such a rapid temperature change in a target’s surface that it
explosively vaporizes, causing shock damage to the target.
Lasers are powered by high-efficiency liquid metallic suspension (LMS) battery packs. Since a
battery’s discharge rate is insufficient to directly power a strong beam, the battery “pumps” a fast-
discharge homopolar generator, which comprises most of the laser mechanism. The generator stores
energy in a rapidly spinning flywheel (about 50,000 rpm) until it has enough for a pulse.
Lasers are generally referred to by their output power (in megawatts) and their pulse duration (in
hundredths of a second). Thus a 40-01 laser would have an output of 40 megawatts for one one-
hundredth of a second. Actual beam energy is a function of the power output multiplied by the pulse
duration.
Tactical notes: Unlike in the movies, most combat lasers are invisible to the naked eye (although
they may be seen with vision devices detecting other bandwidths). And generally, they are silent in
operation, although a “hiss” of superheated air might be heard close-by. As such, combined with their
long-range, lasers make excellent sniper weapons. However, their slow cyclic rate of fire and poor anti-
armor capability prevent more extensive use on the battlefield.

Mueller-Rivera P-3
(Pistole-3)
The P-3 is a very handy lightweight laser. The combination of a low power output and the high discharge rate of the Quinn
power cell makes for a high cyclic rate of fire and a reasonable area fire capability. The power pack is a small (10x6x5cm) hip
pack, connected to the weapon by a rubberized power cable.

Plasma Guns
The plasma gun contains a laser ignition system in the Weapon which super-heats a hydrogen fuel
pellet to a plasma state. The plasma is contained in the ignition chamber briefly and then allowed to
escape through a magnetically focused field along the weapon’s barrel. The high velocity plasma bolt is
initially about 2 millimeters in diameter but tends to disípate at once. Dissipation is minimized by having
the bolt ride a “tunnel” of heated air generated by a laser beam from the weapon, thus the term “plaser”.
The ammunition for theweapon consists of photonic core plaser cells, each containing a fast
discharge battery to pump the weapon’s laser ignition and pathfinder beam, and the fuel pellet for the
plasma bolt. After firing, the spent cells are ejected and are not reusable. Some care must be exercised in
the selection of location of the plasma gunner as the ejected cells are extremely hot, with semimolten
centers, and can cause minor burn injuries to other troops in the way.
Tactical notes: Unlike lasers, plasma guns are extremely noisy and bright. Use of one requires
heavy clothing and eye protection.

The A-9 is the most recent man-portable plasma gun to enter service, and departs from most previous designs in its intended

CLP-1A Field Mounted Plasma Gun

(Cannon Legere Pyrotechnique-1A)
The first field-mounted plasma gun to enter service, it incorporates a complex cruciform mount to allow more stable, accurate
and rapid fire for a weapon of this type. Because it is virtually immobile on the battlefield, it has been withdrawn from front-
line service, but can often be found in fixed locations. Many CLP-1As have been exported, often as light vehicle armament
upgrades
