Lesson Plan in PHY.

SCI 1 (General Physics)

Date: September 10, 2019

Section: BSED-English 3
Room No.: Incubation Room
Time Frame: 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM

I. Objectives:
At the end of the discussion, the students will be able to:
a. State the difference between Scalar quantities and Vector quantities;
b. Calculate quantities involve in a word problem pertaining to the topics: Scalar
and Vector Quantities, and Kinematics specifically Speed and Velocity;
c. Manifest team cooperation among group activities related to the topic being
discussed.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Scalar and Vector Quantities, and Kinematics

III. Procedure
1. Preliminaries:
 Prayer
 Checking of Attendance
 Motivation
2. Review
 Aristotelian and Galilean concept of motion.
3. Lesson Proper
1. Presentation
 Discuss thoroughly the difference between scalar quantities and vector
quantities by providing basic examples.
 Perform calculations about scalar and vector quantities and equations
under the topic: kinematics specifically speed and velocity.

2. Abstraction:

 A vector is an arrow that represents the magnitude and direction of

a quantity. A vector quantity needs both magnitude and direction for a
complete description. While, scalar quantity can be described by
magnitude only and has no direction. On the other hand, kinematics is a
quantitative description of motion without reference to its physical causes.
Two of the topics under kinematics are: Speed, which is a scalar quantity.
For an object moving through a distance d in a time interval ∆t. And
Velocity which is a vector quantity. For an object undergoes a vector
displacement d in a time interval ∆t.

3. Activity:
FUN WALK!
 In this activity, students should be able to design ways to obtain the
speed of all the members of the group and decide how to use these values
to determine who among them walks fastest.

 The students will use the improvised design for the measurement
of the distance given by the teacher. They will also plot the data obtain,
wherein their position is at the y-axis while time is at the x-axis.
4. Analysis
 How can you determine whether a certain quantity is scalar or vector
quantity?
 What strategies best applied in obtaining speed and accuracy in
calculating equations related to kinematics?
 How will you be able to relate the importance of the concepts of scalar
and vector quantity as well as kinematics particularly speed and
velocity?

5. Application:
Board work:
 Students will be randomly called to show their solution to a certain word
problem given beforehand. The first to solve the problem correctly will
have a reward such as ice cream (cornetto) as reinforcement (based
on the theory of B.F. Skinner).

IV. Evaluation
In one fourth sheet of paper, answer the following questions:
1. A car travels at uniform velocity a distance of 100 m in 4 seconds. What is the
velocity of the car?
2. A motorist drives north for 150 s at 45 m and then stops for 15 minutes. He then
continues north, traveling 30 m in 1 hour.
(a) What is his total distance covered? What is his total displacement?
(b) What is his average velocity?

V. Assignment:
Research about the Newton’s Law of Motion.
