At the heart of PROTOMAR are two Unimar heads mounted
on opposing mobile arms creating a close and compact
measuring system all contained inside a highly rated
enclosure that protects all critical components when used in
the harshest environmental conditions.

2 PROTOMAR
The system
The gauge

Protomar measuring system is comprised of a main body (1) to


which are attached upper and lower Unimar measuring heads
(2) having each one hard faced contacts (3) on the part surface.

Measure during grinding process is relevant to master nominal


value acquired during calibration This allows to eliminate the
use of master parts for each diameter to be grinded.
Diameter measure is the result of combination of measuring
cells detected values and position of optical incremental
transducers inside head body. At the end of any grinding
cycle, reaching programmed diameter value, the system
opens measuring cells towards a safety position (maximum
opening) or an optimized one due to next diameter to be
machined.
Control unit optimizes measuring cells arms moving speed
based on working phase, maintaining it maximum duing
opening / closing movements to reduce cycle time. During
manufacturing, based on detected removal quantity, cells
movement speed always guarantees the contact between
armsets and manufactured part, allowing in this way cells
protection against crashes in case of interrupted surfaces.

6 PROTOMAR
P7 eletcronic unit
P7 is a multi-function system able to manage signals coming from measuring head, to elaborate them and to interface with
machine CNC/PLC.
It is possible to connect to P7 other devices used to control manufacturing process quality: wheel balancers, acoustic sensors,
other measuring heads, eddy current probes, ... .
P7 can be provided in different hardware configurations for specific grinder requirements (local or remote panel, with display
software for machine PC, with physical I/O or fieldbus, … ).
From application point of view, different software packages are available and ready to be configured by final Customer. They
can provide as output all the information which operator or machine need to take under control manufacturing process and
parts quality.
