Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), is a flagship scheme of Government of India
to provide cashless secondary and tertiary care treatment from the empanelled public and private hospitals
providing coverage to more than 10 Crore poor and vulnerable beneficiary families.

AB-PMJAY provides a defined benefit cover of Rs. 5 lakh per family per year. This cover will take care of almost
all secondary care and most of tertiary care procedures.

To ensure that nobody is left out (especially women, children and elderly) there will be no cap on family size
and age in the scheme.

The benefit cover will also include pre and post-hospitalization expenses.

Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Suraksha Yojana is a special social security scheme which includes Pension and Life
Insurance, introduced by Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs for the overseas Indian workers in possession of
Emigration Check Required (ECR) passports.

It is a voluntary scheme designed to help workers to meet their three financial needs: saving for retirement,
saving for their return and resettlement, and providing free life insurance offering coverage for death from natural
causes.

The scheme was launched as Pension and Life Insurance Fund, but was soon renamed as MGPSY.

Under the scheme, if a subscriber contributes 5,000 each year—1,000 towards the National Pension System
(NPS) Lite and 4,000 towards the UTI Monthly Income Scheme (MIS)—the government puts in 1,900. Of this
amount, 1,000 goes for NPS and 900 for MIS.

In addition, every subscriber gets free insurance cover from Life Insurance Corp. of India, which pays 30,000 in
case of natural death, 75,000 in case of death or total permanent disability due to an accident, and 37,500 for
total partial disability due to an accident.

The Pravasi Bharatiya Bima Yojana (PBBY) is a mandatory insurance scheme aimed at

Maternity expenses benefit to women emigrants available upto Rs. 50,000/-.

A major issue with the MSP is its poor coverage. Further, there are certain problems with implementation of
MSP such as the procurement centers being far away resulting into heavy transportation cost, non-opening of
Procurement centers timely, lack of covered storage/godowns facility for temporary storage of produces, delays in
payments, etc.

Thus to address the gaps in the MSP system and give better returns to farmers, PM-AASHA is an important step.

PM-AASHA is a new umbrella scheme aimed at ensuring remunerative prices to the farmers for their produce.

The three components that are part of AASHA are:-

Price Deficiency Payment Scheme (PDPS)
Under PDPS it is proposed to cover all oilseeds for which MSP is notified.
In this direct payment of the difference between the MSP and the selling/modal price will be made to pre-
registered farmers selling his produce in the notified market yard through a transparent auction process.
This scheme does not involve any physical procurement of crops.

Pilot of Private Procurement and Stockiest Scheme (PPSS)


Cabinet has decided that for oilseeds, states have the option to roll out Private Procurement Stockiest
Scheme (PPSS) on pilot basis in selected district/APMC(s) of district involving the participation of private
stockiest.
The pilots district/selected APMC(s) of district will cover one or more crop of oilseeds for which MSP is
notified.
Since this is akin to PSS, in that in involves physical procurement of the notified commodity, it shall
substitute PSS/PDPS in the pilot districts.
